Hi
I've a simple ai file (6 layers with simple paths, as in: no compound or clipping masks even, filled with flat colour. No transparency, no effects, really plain-simple. The paths have all been drawn by me so there aren't a gazillion anchors/segments to them.)
There is however... a tiff file - 4.1mb (when open in PhotoShop). I've File > Placed and then I have added to the Object/Sublayer a transparency of 50%.
Ok.. when I open Illustrator, then Cmd o the file (sitting on the desktop) I get: "Not enough memory". I then go "OK, try again just for the hell of ti" Cmd o and it opens it without complaint. I do nothing in between other than sigh, lol.
I looking for general advise really and thoughts. ie: "4.1mb = forget it". I'm not big on placing raster info in a vector app cos I can see it's just asking for trouble but sometimes one needs to for a while while you work up a sketch before deleting it out. I could take the image down to a bitmap so kb which I'll do as it's only a pencil sketch for tracing. However... I'm interested in this as at one time one could Get Info on the app icon and sdjust 'recommended memory'. There appears to be nothing 'other than the scratch disk' in the prefs for memory management.
The app says it's using 2.8% CPU and (with the file open) 179mb 'real memory'. This is an i7 Intel 500gb HD, 4GB ram machine with currently 458gb of HD space available.
Thanks for your thoughts.
