That looks to be about kerning with ActionScript or something.
I'm looking for being able to kern on the stage.
I still haven't found a way to do it with the new text engine.
On stage auto kern will be selected,u can adjust it setting tracking values in the properties panel of the TLF text field
Yes, I'm aware of that. But I was interested in kerning it myself. I never trust built-in kerning information wh
en making large type like a headline or something. Kerning letter by letter by meself is important to me.
I was wondering if it were possible using the new text engine. And if not, if the old engine will always be there.
This frustrated me too initially, but I just now figured it out, no thanks to the help file.
When you have text selected, there's a drop box at the top of the text properties pane that says 'TLF text'. Click this and select 'Classic Text'.
Now you can treat the text as you would've in CS4.
(this is for the original poster as no one's explained this step here)
Yeah, I won't be using the new text engine because of this.
Any designer who sets large type and doesn't kern by their own hand should be flogged.
It's a shame, though. The TLF engine has some nice features which I won't be able to use.
Why is Adobe always half baked?

Use the tracking setting as if it were kerning. If you select two characters and adjust the tracking, it will actually adjust the kerning for only those characters selected.
Thanks! That kind of works! Actually you have to select only 1 character and when you adjust tracking it moves the next character in line.
This is kind of laborious but at least it's possible. I can use the TLF engine now.
