You may use Type>Find/Change to make the change in all objects in one go.

Takeform1 Jun 17, 2010 1:58 PM (in response to Monika Gause)Thanks for the feedback. I don't think this will really help me under the circumstances but I appreciate the responses. I'm thinking Illustrator just isn't the right tool for the job....unfortunately

Jacob Bugge Jun 17, 2010 2:18 PM (in response to Takeform1)For my part you are welcome, Takeform.
If you post an image/screenshot (using the Camera Icon), it may be possible to say more.

Larry G. Schneider Jun 17, 2010 2:22 PM (in response to Takeform1)Are the pieces of text in a regular pattern? If so you could use a pair of transform effects to duplicate the text and have only one live text object to change.

If Symbols won't work for you, why not tell us why? There is almost always more than one way to skin a cat in Illustrator, but we can only help you if you're willing to provide more detail.
To amplify on Larry's response, you could, for example, create an entire page of business cards using transform effects so that there is only one 'master.' Tell us a little more about what you're trying to do.

Jacob Bugge Jun 17, 2010 2:36 PM (in response to Takeform1)One of the things that prevent this forum from becoming boring is the occurrence of subtle and intricate OPs which challenge the helpers by their enabling different interpretations.
I was assuming different objects containing identical wording.
Others were assuming other things.

8. Re: Master/Linked Text Objects?
Takeform1 Jun 17, 2010 2:53 PM (in response to Takeform1)Thanks to everyone for the responses. What I am trying to do is as follows: As you can see in the screenshot, I have tons of these templates that have callouts with letters in them. The callout letters coming off the rendering of the sign on the main part of the page need to match the callouts in the circles on the bottom of the page (the "legend"). What I am trying to do is get it so that if I change the letter in one of the callout circles in the legend, it will automatically update/change it's equivalent callout on the main part of the page. We go through TONS of these every day and inevitably someone makes a mistake and one of the on-page callouts doesn't match it's equivalent in the legend. Your help is appreciated!
