    "Newb" build

I'm building a new computer, used mostly for HD video capturing/editing.

Right now I just do simple cuts on video and audio, but play on learning special effects and what not.

I'm trying to stay under $1200 hardware wise.

So far I have for sure...

      I7 940

      160 GB SSD Intel x25-m

      1.5 TB Seagate 7200 RPM 16mb cache

      I'm considering getting the following...

      http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157189&cm_re=asrock-_-13-157-189- _-Product - mobo

12 GB of Ram - Big qustion is do I do 6 sticks of 2gb or 3 sticks of 4gb and why? Is 12 GB's overkill?

Video card wise IDK what to do. I have an 8800gt, which is "old" but would upgrading my video card benefit me a lot?

Just to give you an idea of what I'm doing check out www.youtube.com/garudoh. Mostly I'm taking old school game footage, upconverting it to 1080P, and editing it's soundtrack over it. My goal with this build is to decrease encode time as much as possible, as well as build something that will last a while and allow using special effects when I decide to learn them. I also have a Black Magic Intensity Pro capture card I want to use to capture footage from my gaming consoles that I haven't been able to use due to HDD speed.

The computer I currently use is...

      Intel Q6600 OC'ed to 3.2ghz on air

      4 GB Ram

      7 fans (loud)

      1.5 TB Seagate 7200 16mb cache
