I assume that's only available today (June 20) though, right?

Your post came to my attention at another forum that I frequent. Your post seems to been well received by Steve Grisetti and Bill Hunt.
I know the FREE is very tempting, but...
Do you have any experience with this company and any prior free offers? I ask this because, in checking further into the company involved, I came across user criticism that a person has to download and install the software on the day of the offer, BUT cannot ever reinstall it.
What do you think? True and a bit of take it while you can and be happy for the time together?

Bill Hunt Jun 20, 2010 5:35 PM (in response to A.T. Romano)Yes, sometimes "free" does come with some requirements. Look at the great, free burning utility, ImgBurn. One has to scroll down past 2/3 of a page of ads for all sorts of other software.

Yes, I've installed a lot of software from Give Away of the Day.I've never encountered any malware or spyware characteristics from any of the GAOTD's I've installed.
The whole point of the site is to provide, for free, commercial software but only on a single day.
From their FAQ:
Is GOTD a trial?
Every program we give away is not a trial. We provide you with full-functioning registered version of software titles.
There are two points you need to remember:
* you have to install AND activate/register the product according to instructions given in the readme.txt file attached to every GOTD package.
* it should be done while the giveaway offer for the software is still on (within 24 hours).
Still we do not provide you with the lifetime license in terms of the fact that our package can be used to install the program on giveaway date only. It means that you will not be able to re-install the program after PC crash or install the program on another PC after the giveaway day is over.I personally take the view that anything I download from GAOTD is a 'souped up trial' and wouldn't incorporate anything into a workflow unless I was prepared to purchase the product in the event of a failure of the GAOTD version. I guess, from the software producers point of view, making their product free for a single day is a marketing cost and they hope to gain business from click-throughs and personal recommendations.
Generally they have a video related GAOTD a couple of times a month. I post details here if I think it may be of interest to the PRE community. Video conversion software is quite a common item on GAOTD (although many are simply phone, portable media or youtube converters that may be of limited use). The one I posted yesterday looks to be a much more advanced converter - sadly though I don't have any HD clips to test it with.
Hope this helps to explain the GAOTD model more clearly.
Please note that I do not have ANY connection with GAOTD.
Cheers,
