CS5 Still get unwanted size pop-up window

    Big Jimm Community Member

I still get the annoying (to me) pop-up window frequently that says Rectangle and the width and height. I turned off “smart dimensions” under guides and pasteboard but that didn’t seem to stop it.

      New suggestions appreciated.

      Thanks.

Try Edit > Preferences... Interface > Cursor and Gesture Options and uncheck Tranformation Values

Thank you Peter, but “show transformation values” was already unchecked.

While I'm at it: I also don’t like the “text auto load” in the cursor. I just like to copy any text that I want to copy when I want to copy it. I'm sure that all of you pros (which is most of you) find these auto-load-pop-up features helpful, but for an insignificant like me, they are annoying.

            Thanks.

Can you get a screen capture of what you are seeing?

Unless I misunderstood you before, I think I told you what you need to do t okeep from getting a loaded cursor in an earlier thread.

That sounds like a pop-up that comes up when you click on page with rectangle, ellipse or polygon tool activated. It´s a feature and I have never heard any trick to shut it down. You just have to activate some other tool, Select tool (Black Arrow) for instance.

You can toggle Thumbnails on Place feature off from Preferences/Interface as well...

I think Petteri is onto something here.

Are you seeing something similar to this?:

                  Frame dialog.png

That's the dialog you get when you click on the page with a frame or shape tool. It allows you to create a precise shape where you click without having to drag the cursor and can't be turned off.  It only happens when you click and release with one of those tools, and it happens to me all the time when I forget to switch to the Select tool after drawing frames. Annoying, but I treat it as a reminder to watch what I'm doing more closely.

                    Petteri -

YES. That sounds like my problem. It does seem to pop-up when I'm working with rectangles or ellipse’s, etc.

I have turned off “show thumbnails on place” as you suggested and will be trying it that way. I never seem to be sure what I'm doing when it pops up, but, as I think about it, it does seem to be happening when I'm working as stated above. It will be very helpful not to have these unwanted pop-ups.

May I sneak in one more tiny question?

Why is it that when I'm typing my post (like now) that I can’t see a cursor?

                    Thanks to all.

Thumbnails on Place is an extremely useful feature, and I wouldn't recommend turnig it off, myself. If you select more than one file at a time for placing, it's pretty much the only way to tell which one is currently loaded, and it only appears while you are placing, it has nothing to so with smart guides, smart dimensions or transform values.

The lack of the cursrsor in the forum from time to time is a Jive/Browser thing, I think. Reatarting the browser might help.
