Reading the real width of a UIMovieClip

I've created a UIMovieClip ("a"), and inside it I've drawn a roundRect with a width of 70. This movie clip is inside another UIMovieClip ("b").

When I change the width of MovieClip "b", the "a" movie clip automatically resizes (that's what I want), but when I  read the width od movie clip "a",it still outputs the original width (70) of the roundRect inside it (no matter how many times I've resized the "b" movie clip).

How can I read the real width of movie clip "a", can someone please help .
