In general, about the Frame Size of your Project, say 1920 x 1080. If you do need to Pan on a Zoomed out image, give it a few more pixels. For 720 x 480 (SD), the largest rec. is 1000 x 750.

The larger the pixel count, the more stress it will place on your computer.

This ARTICLE also covers some other issues, and offers one workflow. Note: the figures used in most of it are for SD, so just bump things up to your Project's Frame Size.

          Good luck,

Most welcome. I think that you will also be more pleased with the quality, if all, or most, Scaling is done in PS, and not PrPro. To me, that is more important than the reduction of the computer overhead.

              Good luck,

PS - I strongly recommend keeping the images in PSD, and not going with JPEG, or TGA. TIFF is not bad, but why bother, when one is usually already in PSD?
