    Scale timeline and tweens

    MattBru Community Member

I just finished animating a scene with multiple layers and multiple motion tweens on those layers. But after testing it, i decided that it is too fast. Does anyone know how to scale everything on the timeline without changing the framerate?

Also, how can i scale the size (transform) an object that already has a motion tween applied to it? I want to scale it on each frame in the animation, not just the first. I've tried, and it changes the animation where i scale it on the timeline.

      thanks!

          Hello

The only way to do that is to manually extend each timeline of each element... complicated because you will also have to adjust all script if you have Gotoandplay and such command...

Seriously, use the framerate if you can.

I don't know of any other way.. It is a pain, which is why i personnaly always make a light version of my flash just to always check the speed.

I'm not sure i fully understand your probleme. But here is the 2 solution i think you can apply

1- select the start of your tween, go in the Transform Tool and change the scale. THEN select the finish of your tween and do the same. If you have step in your tween ( i mean keyframe ) then you will also have to select them and scale them. Basiquely, every keyframe that has an image on itself ( shown as a little black dot) has to be scaled.

2- you Cancel the tween on all the element ( just right click the tween and "remove tween" ) to get back all your basic element. Scale them, and reapply the Tween afterward.

          I think that's it.

Hi Chorale. Thanks for the helpful response.

I think adobe needs to impliment a feature to scale the timeline. That would be nice.

Do you know if the framerate harms/ affects anything else in the file? (Does it just increase filesize and therefore loading time?)

            The second question:

What i meant was: I want to scale the size of the object on one layer the whole way across the timeline.

So what you're saying is - there is no way to do it unless i go and tweak each and every keyframe? (What a pain)

            Thanks!

              Hello

Normally, Changing the framerate shouldn't change a lot the file size. The file size is proportionnal with the number of Script you will have inside. That is at least what i saw when i duplicated a lot of script in the same flash. I went from a 50kB SWF file to a 800KB SWF file, without adding any picture or image in it.. Ouch indeed.

Second point: You didn't understand me. It is quite possible and yes you can do it the hard way ( each keyframe 1 by 1 ) but what i mean is that if your ....

Let me give you an exemple, because without seeing your timeline, i can't be certain.

Let say you have a picture in frame 1, and you want it to make a L shape move. This imply having a Key frame in the corner of the L and another keyframe for the end of the L. Think of it as key-position of the tween. This mean you will have 3 Keyframe

Well then create those 3 keyframe with the scale you need and of course, the position itself. Now you need to stretch your first keyframe the amount you want, and repeat that with the second keyframe. The third and last keyframe don't require any stretching unless it is in your design or whatever. So if you look at the timeline, You should have the first keyframe filling a lot of frame while having a black dot only on the FIRST frame. Same with the second Keyframe.

If you apply your Tween on those, you will note that beside turning Blue or green, you will have only 3 frame with a BLACK dot. Those are the keyframe that contain the picture you've put manually early on. Those are the keyframe you can edit using the method in my previous answer.

So no need to edit everything. Just the keyframe with a Black dot.

If you still have difficulty, please Can you show me your time frame with the tween ? It would be easier

              Hope this help.

Here is in picture what i mean that you "should" see

                http://demo.episodesoft.com/demo/untitled-1.jpg

The top one is a tween with 3 keyframe.

I think i figured it out!

                  After some experimenting:

                  1. click on frame one of the layer.

                  2. make sure the whole layer is selected (highlited blue)

                  3. then click on the object (instance of symbol being tweened) on the stage

(selecting the symbol is easiest when all your other layers are locked - just alt+click the lock on the layer youre working on)

                  4. change the x or y value in the properties panel under "position and size"

                  5. the whole layer size is scaled!

I tested this a few times. If anyone has any objections let me know.

Chorale - thanks for your time and effort.

Here is my timeline, if it makes any difference...

                    Hu ?

I see the black dot i'm speaking about but i have no idea what is the small black diamond... is that another keyframe ? did CS5 change that ?

But yeah, select it and scale, thats basiquely what i said. But i wasn't aware it was rescaling the whole Layer... You might want to check each step of your tween, just to be safe

                    Glad it worked

Here's a blog post with some specifics about scaling new motion:

                      http://flashthusiast.com/2009/10/06/scaling-and-moving-new-motion-tweens-in-flash-cs4/

(different steps depending on what the tween is like, and help you avoid the auto-keyframing/tweening issue).
