Have a customer who's having an issue with Adobe Reader 9.3+. He is running WinXP SP3. When the reader app is launched, wither directly from the screen icon, or by loading a pdf document, it will load, and within 3-5 seconds of loading will immediately crash with an "Adobe Reader has encountered an error and needs to close..." error.
I have tried backgrading from 9.3.2 all the way to 9.3.0, including purging references from the registry. Have tried from a different local profile to ensure it wasn't a profile corruption, Nothing seems to be resolving the issue.
Does anyone have a clue as to what it might be?
I have the same problem on a PC.
Computer has been infected with a large amount of spyware, trojans, etc.
I believe the only hope for this particular machine will be to format windows partitiion and do a clean reinstall. Even after removing the junk the problem remains along with evidence of other software problems. Possibly still some kind of rootkit that has not been removed yet.
If you have not already solved this you may have a rootkit infection. If that is the case the only sure fire removal method is to format and reinstall.
From where did you download the installer??? Try it from here: http://get.adobe.com/reader/?promoid=BUIGO, if it was not from somewhere on adobe.com
Otherwise, try to repair it from the Add/Remove Programs and see whether that helps.
