1. Re: Scaling a layer produces jaggy, not smooth lines.
c.pfaffenbichler Jun 26, 2010 3:06 AM (in response to spdorsey6969)If I remember correctly I read sometime that SOs downsample using Bicubic Sharper, so that may be a factor.
What is your Image Interpolation Preferences setting anyway?
Could you post the grab and a screenshot of the size/position it is supposed to be in the end (with the camera-symbolf)?

spdorsey6969 Jun 28, 2010 12:32 PM (in response to c.pfaffenbichler)Thanks for the reply.
Here is the final (note the jaggy look of the top edge of the angled screen browser window image)

Here is the actual page that needs to be angled.

My PS settings are "Bicubic Sharper (Best for Reduction)". Bicubic Smoother looks pretty much the same. Help!! The client is complaining about the jaggedness of the lines.
Thanks,

4. Re: Scaling a layer produces jaggy, not smooth lines.
spdorsey6969 Jun 29, 2010 6:22 AM (in response to c.pfaffenbichler)That loks far better.
Just so I understand - you did this?:
- Flatten image against background
- Scale 400%
- Convert to smart object
- Reduce back to 100%
Is this an accurate list of events?
Your edges look much smoother than mine. I'm going to try this right now.
Thanks!

5. Re: Scaling a layer produces jaggy, not smooth lines.
spdorsey6969 Jun 29, 2010 7:42 AM (in response to spdorsey6969)I was able to reproduce your result following the process stated above. But the result is an image that is flattened against the background, making it difficult to blend effectively with my existing Photoshop comp. Also, the colors are off when I paste it back into my main Photoshop comp.
Two points:
1) Should this work better? Should I not have to go through this process to get this result?
2) Is there a process out there that can yield this clearer image while keeping the layers separated?
Thanks, you have been very helpful.

6. Re: Scaling a layer produces jaggy, not smooth lines.
c.pfaffenbichler Jun 29, 2010 9:45 AM (in response to spdorsey6969)As for the Color Shift: That should not happen if both documents are the same color-space and have their profiles embedded.
While far as I can tell transparencies (which one can consider an additional channel to a layer’s RGB-channels) produce slightly different transformation results when compared to the result of the same transformation applied to a channel (of that transparency) one problem in this case seems to be not the transparency, but rather the fact that the screenshot has a black roughly one pixel-border at the top, which despite being transparent affects the result – cutting it off or coloring it a light gray might help.
Anyway you could also try setting your Preference to Bicubic (the Preference seems to be honored by the SO-transformation).
