Jen deHaan Jun 28, 2010 10:10 AM (in response to MattBru)It is because you have easing applied (there should be a message regarding this in the tooltip). You can either use the property keyframes in the graph, or you can disable easing to use the hot text and then re-enable it afterwards. I find using the property keyframes easiest since you can see directly how the real (eased) value is affected with the dashed graph.
The reason for those controls being dimmed is those values are changed mathematically -- calculations are made in the background to give you an eased value, which is reflected in those controls. If one was to use the hot text while easing is applied, Flash will keep giving you new eased values, and using the hot text quickly becomes frustrating/bizarre.

MattBru Jun 28, 2010 5:33 PM (in response to Jen deHaan)Thanks for the reply.
Although im not sure i understood fully. What did you mean: " I find using the property keyframes easiest since you can see directly how the real (eased) value is affected with the dashed graph."?
Property keyframes are the diamond dots on the timeline, and the square dots on the motion editor right?
So youre saying i could have used those dots in the motion editor to edit the scale?
What's the quickest way to reset ease? At the bottom of the motion editor? Thanks.

Jen deHaan Jun 28, 2010 5:45 PM (in response to MattBru)Property keyframes are represented by diamonds in the timeline, or the squares in the graphs, correct. What I was referring to was adjusting them by dragging them in the graphs. The dashed graph will update with the eased values after you drag the property keyframes, which is the actual tweened value (what you will see in the animation with the ease applied to the tween). Therefore, since you're working in the graph, you can see right there how the eased tween is affected as you adjust the keyframe values.
One more note though - you can also "ease" by just smoothing the graph, without applying any ease when you're working with non-spatial properties (anything that's not X, Y, Z). For more information, see the note this post: http://flashthusiast.com/2008/11/20/flash-cs4-how-to-ease-between-keyframes-using-new-moti on-tweens/
To enable and disable the ease, click the check box in the Ease column (tooltip "Enable or Disable ease").
