Complex document: Selecting layers in the document window

Hi!

I have a photoshop document with quite many layers organized inside folders (layer groups).

When I right click on a certain spot in the document window with the move tool in order to select the layer I want, I get a list of almost 50 items to choose from. However in reality this exact location in my document contains only pixels from two layers. It would be so much nicer two see only those two layers in the list, instead of all 50. Is this behaviour caused by my usage of layer groups? Is there any remedy to it?

Yes. PS offers to select any parent containers and possible otehr elements associated with a layer, including adjustments and clipping mask layers. Short of toggling the visibility of the otehr layers, I'm not aware of a way to smarten it up.... You might have better luck making extensive use of the layer selection shortcuts and effectively walking the layer hierarchy until you have the right one found.
