    Editing audio in Soundbooth

I edited in soundbooth several audio clips from a single video sequence in Premiere.  Once I discovered I couldn't make any changes to those original audio edits I made several copies of a sequence in Premiere so I could try several different options in Soundbooth.  Now I have several sequences in Premiere with edited audio from Soundbooth, but as I added edits Premiere gradually ran slower and slower to an eventual crawl.  When I open this project in premiere now, I cannot even save the file and get a "Not Responding" message in the title bar.  Is there a solution or does this supposed feature of editing premiere audio in Soundbooth just not work?
