ssv09 Jun 29, 2010 11:36 PM (in response to goody38)Restart the system. Launch Acrobat 9.3.2 and do a manual update "Help > Check for Updates"
See if that worked. Which Mac version are you on?

2. Re: Acrobat Pro update will not install
acbraun Jun 30, 2010 5:44 AM (in response to ssv09)I was having the same problem... I have acrobat pro 9.1.1 from cs4. Therefore I reinstalled already this version, as it was said. - Today I got the information for another update. I tried to install but got the message: The installation process encountered a problem. - The disk image could not be accessed.
Does anyone has an idea what to do?
thanks

3. Re: Acrobat Pro update will not install
ssv09 Jun 30, 2010 6:10 AM (in response to goody38)You can uninstall Acrobat Pro using the uninstaller application. Subsequently, you can reinstall only Acrobat from the CS4 media and try applying the Acrobat updates.

4. Re: Acrobat Pro update will not install
goody38 Jun 30, 2010 6:40 AM (in response to ssv09)To SSV09 & acbraun: I'm running SLeopard 10.6.4. After posting yesterday, I did try a few things. I DID open Acrobat & download the update. Didn't work. But unfortunately it DID update my Acrobat installer from 9.3.2 to 9.3.3, which means I now cannot uninstall 9.3.2 using vs9.3.3. I also went to the Adobe website & downloaded the update. This didn't work either. However both these efforts gave me a different kind of message:
"The patch has failed because the application has been modified since it was originally installed (for example, plug-ins may have been disabled.) Please go to the Adobe support website for more information regarding how to re-enable disabled components prior to installing the patch. Or, you can uninstall and reinstall the application, and then reinstall the patch."
I went to Adobe's website and could not seem to find anything about how to re-enable components. However I did find something regarding "patch has failed" when installing an update of Acrobat 8. (http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/407/kb407621.html) Solution 1 was to control-click the acrobat Pro app and choose Show Package Contents; then open Contents folder, then open Resources folder and finally open the AMT folder. Then move the AUMProduct.aup to the Trash. & try to install the update again. THIS DIDN'T WORK EITHER.
I decided to uninstall the app. I was able to locate the acrobat uninstaller 9.3.2 from my backup. Then I was able to uninstall my 9.3.2.
Then I put in the CD for CS4. I got as far as "Preparing to install". I sat & looked at this screen for :45. Should I have waited LONGER?
So this doesn't work either.
I also tried to repair the installation. (Open acrobat; under Help, choose Repair Acrobat Installation.) It told me everything was OK, there was nothing to repair.
Now I was in a pickle....the only way I was going to "reinstall Acrobat Pro" was to restore my system using my cloned backup. That was 2 days old, so I had to "update my backup in "certain areas" (ie, Mail, documents, bookmarks etc.- I have a list from past experience) Then I restored my system.
I was hoping someone here could give me a solution.

5. Re: Acrobat Pro update will not install
goody38 Jun 30, 2010 10:35 AM (in response to goody38)Well, I just spent 1 hour with Adobe Support. He took control of my screen, and thus saw what my problem was. Without explaining WHY,he said I had to TRASH all my CS4 Adobe apps (but not Reader) (Note: he said I didn't have to use "uninstallers"). Then RE-INSTALL my CS4 apps from my CD.
This I did; I ticked off everthing and proceeded; some files were removed and reinstalled, but in the end, there was a successful install with one error, having to do with a font in my System Library (MinionPro-Bold.otf) I have too many fonts now anyway, so I trashed it. Then I opened Photoshop and clicked updates. Nine updates were downloaded & installed OK. Then I opened Acrobat Pro, and I again clicked updates. Updated to 9.2; then updated to 9.3.3!! My o my, FINALLY got my 9.3.3.
Something called Flashlight keeps downloading & installed, but somehow it "doesn't take". ?? and Device Central stays at 2.0 instead of 2.1.0.
The folder called "Acrobat.com" contains vs 1.2.443, s/b 2.1.0.0; and
Adobe Media Player is 1.1, s/b 1.8.
I'll try Adobe's download site directly.
Anyway, "I'm satisfied", finally.

DavidS007 Jun 30, 2010 12:45 PM (in response to ssv09)I had this same issue, and I couldn't use the uninstall app because it said the Acrobat was not a valid version. I had to trash Acrobat by hand and reinstall from scratch, and then run all EIGHT updaters.
My install of Acrobat had not been altered in any way.

10. Re: Acrobat Pro update will not install
EKD33 Jul 2, 2010 1:22 PM (in response to goody38)I, too, am using CS4. After trying five or six times with the 9.3.2 update (and yes I've downloaded directly from the Adobe site as well) I just gave up, hoping that Adobe would address this problem (it's referenced in many places if you do a Google search on "error 1301" but no real solution that I've found).
I don't consider trashing all my apps and reinstalling CS4 a viable solution. The time I've wasted just on this update is ridiculous.
So the notification for 9.3.3 came today and I tried again. No luck. I've never modified my applications and I've run the "repair" option that's listed under the Help menu of Acrobat.
I don't think that this problem is answered and I'm amazed that no one from Adobe has addressed why this happens or provided a fix for users either directly or within their own latest update.
And if there is one, please provide a link to the answer-- I will owe you a debt of gratitude.

11. Re: Acrobat Pro update will not install
goody38 Jul 2, 2010 7:21 PM (in response to EKD33)I realize that the instructions from Adobe told me to trash all my CS4 apps & reinstall, then update, update, update. True, I finally got my 9.3.3 Acrobat, but you're right. They gave me NO explanation of WHY this should have happened. I told him that there were a number of folks like me having this problem. Since I spent so much time with the rep, and he DID see what was happening on my desktop (he took control), perhaps they will do something about it. He left me on the line for a time while he talked to his supervisor to get the solution he finally gave me. Let's hope they dig into this - maybe on the next update??

12. Re: Acrobat Pro update will not install
slpersonette Jul 4, 2010 1:06 PM (in response to goody38)I had the same problem until today. I had Acrobat Pro 9.0 on my 13" MBP with Mac OSX 10.6.4. I haven't been able to update Acrobat since I installed it with Creative Suite CS4. The error message said that the patch failed due to components being modified or something like that. I hadn't modified anything, so I wasn't sure what it meant. Anyway, I got out my Creative Suite installation disks and reinstalled Acrobat Pro 9.0 without uninstalling it first. After it finished reinstalling, I quit the installer and went to the Adobe site and downloaded and installed each patch separately beginning with 9.1 through 9.3.3. Each one was successful and now my version of Acrobat Pro is 9.3.3. Hope this helps anyone having this problem.

im going to give up and keep checking to see if someone with get off their butt and come up with a fix.
maybe if we all keep posting they will take notice.

iDll kh Jul 14, 2010 5:07 AM (in response to goody38)I have CS5 and I got the same error, I have also tried to reinstall ( over the original copy ) but nothing happened !
When I read ( goody38) solution I choose to start with the easiest solution ..
Disabling (MinionPro-Bold.otf) .. I went to Font Book, Search for that font, Right Click on it, the Disable "MinionPro" Family ..
And it works temporary ! I the loading bar started to fill up, but when it completes the error showed up again
when I start ( Help > Check for Updates ) I got this message :
Cannot download update files. Please verify the you are connected to the Internet and check for updates again later.
WHAT ! Well I really am connected to the internet !
Any idea ?

15. Re: Acrobat Pro update will not install
EKD33 Jul 14, 2010 6:44 AM (in response to iDll kh)Not sure about the internet connectivity error messsage (weird, certainly), however the font disabiling "fix" didn't seem to work for me, at least on laptop.
I have a downloaded version of the update (rather than doing it through Acrobat's "Check for Updates" option in the Help toolbar).
After disabling the Minion Pro family, I opened the update and then led it to the Acrobat Pro 9 folder, but the application is greyed out, showing that it's not "legal" for updating.
Glad I at least saved the time doing it that way, rather than the laborious 15 min. wait within Acrobat's own updater, only to be given the usual error message that I've somehow "disabled or moved components."
And really... still no word from Adobe on this?
I've used Adobe products since Photoshop 2 and always felt they made really cool software.
This is pretty disappointing to have an major glitch in place this long and not even a response from someone on the inside.

16. Re: Acrobat Pro update will not install
ReinEar Jul 14, 2010 12:03 PM (in response to goody38)To add potential confusion to this (I've been having the same issue as folks above now for almost a year with my Cs4 AcrobotPro9 updating) my laptop updated to the 9.3.3 update no problem, while my iMac REFUSES to update. I've treated them both identically (jumped through the various hoops mentioned in the posts above), and they are set up virtually the same as far as I know.
It is rather amazing that a company as big as Adobe, and an application as broadly used as Acrobat Pro, continues to not get this sorted out.

gwhitty1 Jul 18, 2010 9:37 AM (in response to goody38)As far as im concerned the whole things a joke. Mine still wont update. Why in the world wouldn't adobe figure out that based on the forum something needs to be done, like- fix the update so it works..
I have zero intention of reinstalling until some sort of statement by adobe identifies what it is. For all i know ill reinstall and at some point the same thing will happen.

Not likely, Adobe has been showing a finger salute to Apple for years.

22. Re: Dealing with APPLE?
DavidS007 Jul 18, 2010 1:02 PM (in response to S.Reinier)I agree. First off, let's not forget that without Apple there wouldn't be an Adobe. They invested in the fledgling company when they got started, and who used Windows 3.1 for graphics? No one in their right mind.
Flash is a joke. I'm on a 1.25GHz MDD G4 with 1.5GB of RAM and Flash can slow down this Mac to a crawl! Flash videos? Total crap. They wont play without stuttering and playing out of synch. I use ClickToFlash to disable Flash unless I want it. Apple's right, Adobe needs to optimize Flash, and at the very least make Flash more fool proof for not authoring files that no one can play except on the newest fastest computers. Even Toshiba dropped work on their tablet because Flash wouldn't play well.
One of Adobe's problems is they seem to be writing their installers using Flash. Adobe, here's a news flash (pun intended), Flash is an animation program, NOT a video or application platform! Macromedia didn't know how to write a decent Mac program, so please don't follow in their footsteps. Don't even get me started in the GoLive Vs. Dreamweaver stuff. What a step backwards!
This is not the first time I had an issue updating Acrobat, and not just on my personal machines. And not all the version were part of a CS install. My wife's iMac has a stand alone Acrobat Pro install, and that wouldn't update on the last few updates. I had to reinstall twice already to get it to update. Acrobat was never modified at all. I wonder why I bothered. And the new Windows inspired cartoon interface to Acrobat is a joke. Let have some more big dumb buttons.
Ever since they stopped using standard installers, updating their applications has been hit or miss. Even installing them fresh is problematic. It's common for an installer to sit there for an hour and having to be force quit.
I've been using Adobe products since Photoshop 2.5 or 3... so I have seen the decline in quality in the installers while the programs themselves get better.

23. Re: Dealing with APPLE?
Phillip Jones Jul 18, 2010 4:55 PM (in response to DavidS007)I am afraid I will have to get you going, on the GoLive, DeamWeaver. DreamWeaver, is the only thing I've used for serious web design. Before I used a Program From Adobe Page Mill. Which was better Go Live or DreamWeaver?
-
24. Re: Dealing with APPLE?
DavidS007 Jul 19, 2010 10:11 AM (in response to Phillip Jones)I liked GoLive much better. I used it from when it was GoLive CyberStudio before Adobe bought it. It was more like using a page layout program, where you would place a grid down on the "page" and you could position your elements where ever you wanted.
Dreamweaver is a very clunky program, but it is getting better now that Adobe is updating the UI and the behavior. Dreamweaver was popular with Windows users that were programers and not artists. Since this was the norm in the corporate world, Adobe was loosing out on the web developing front.
But GoLive was 100 times better than Dreamweaver. I'm forced to use Dreamweaver now, but I still don't like it. You could always spot websites done in Dreamweaver and CSS. They had no style. Lots of square tables and things. Kind of like Adobe's current site.
I liked PageMill better than Dreamweaver as well.

26. Re: Acrobat Pro update will not install
goody38 Feb 10, 2011 7:29 AM (in response to rintau2000)I updated to 9.4.2 a few days ago. I launched Acrobat Pro & got the update from there. At first I thought I was having problems, since it seemed to "install forever". While this was happening I thought maybe Acrobat Pro should be closed. So I went to that window, but it wouldn't quit; so I force quit. THEN the installation completed itself and everything is fine. This is the only suggestion I can make about this update.

Adobe, your Acrobat Pro Update situation SUCKS, and by SUCKS I mean "It Is very unprofessional that you can't get this fixed".

31. Re: Acrobat Pro update will not install
ligi Jun 28, 2011 4:27 PM (in response to goody38)finally worked it out
uninstalling acrobat pro 9 did not work, so trashed it and emptied trashcan.
then reinstalled from original disk.
I read in a former post (http://forums.adobe.com/thread/457141) that not everything is wiped completely if it doesn't require serial number.
But the new installation can be uninstalled and removes all leftovers from acrobat.
Then reinstall again from disk..... ( have another cup of coffee)
when you open acrobat and get prompted for serial number you know you have a clean install now.
So that was back to acrobat 9.0.0 ....
I read that it is important to do sequential upgrades..most frustrated users end up doing all the upgrades manually, but that is quite a few to get from 9.0.0 to 9.4.5
So tried first to do the automatic update via help-> check for updates
And here is the good news, it went from 9.0.0 to 9.2.0
Then clicked check for upgrades again, and it went straight from 9.2.0 to 9.4.5
After months of frustration about the nagging update reminders finally back on track...
hope it works for you too

32. Re: Acrobat Pro update will not install
rcgregory Jul 11, 2011 8:29 AM (in response to ligi)Thanks Ligi. I've been battling this demon for months with no luck. I tried your method (delete app, reinstall, remove, reinstall, update) and it worked.
My only glitch was when I first reinstalled 9.0, the Help menu wouldn't work, so I could not access the Check for Updates feature. I downloaded the 9.2 updater but it would not work. I downloaded 9.1 updater and that worked. The auto updater then allowed me to jump from 9.1 to 9.2 to 9.4.5.
I hope this issue does not return...
