ACR 5.7 is indeed the latest version of Camera Raw for CS4. Hence, the update mechanism is working appropriately.
that didnt work
Which part didn't work?
i figured it out...
Jeffreyj1010 - You figured it out? What's the answer? I can't figure it out on my CS4 version.
Can anyone help me out?
I know this thread is a bit old but....
Jeffreyj1010...kind of d**k move to come back here to say you solved the problem...but not share your solution with the rest of us.
I had this problem and not only would my thumbnails not show up in Bridge...but they also would not open in ACR.
I found my CS4 had ACR v5.2...so I downloaded the v5.6 update and manually installed it. That got me images opening up in ACR...but still no thumbnails in Bridge.
I followed the advice above to purge the cache for the folder that contained the images...and voila! ...the thumbnails appeared.

You should be running ACR 5.7, not 5.6.
All updates to ACR contain unannounced, unpublished bug fixes and improvements, not just support for new cameras. You should always run the latest version of ACR your version of Photoshop supports.
