You'll have to add a rectangle t your live paint group. See manual on how to edit live paint groups (via isolation mode for example) and/or to add paths to it.
I have added the rectangle, but it won't allow me to merge it with my live paint group. When I try to add colour it just fills the whole artboard.
I've read the manual about the isolation mode, but cannot find the button on my toolbar panel.
This is a tough program to master.
Hope you can find the time to steer me in the right direction.
to enter isolation mode you actually just have to double-click the object (that is, if you haven't deactivated that option in preferences).
To merge the rectangle with your live trace later, send it to the background, select all and Object > Live Trace > Merge
Thanks so much Monika.
I was away for the long weekend and thought about this quite often.
It took 2 minutes to do, following your instructions.
You're welcome. Hope you had a nice 4th of July
I hope I'm not being to forward here. But maybe you can give me some advise. You obviously are very knowledgable with this program.
I'm retired and my wife and I are writing a children's book. She's has done the writing and I have all my sketches done and trying to use a free trial of Ai5.
The illustrations are very basic and cartoony. The coloring will also be basic but colorful.
Do you think Ai5 is way over my head? Is there possibly a better program to use before sending things off to print.
Please feel free not to reply.
Thanks again and take care,
It all depends on what you're trying to do. Illustrator is the right tool for doing cartoon-style drawings. But it is maybe too heavyweight if you're just doing one book. Will you do the typesetting in Illustrator as well? That's possible but it's not too comfortable.
If you're looking for tutorials you should give www.vectortuts.com a try. They have tutorials for beginners as well as advanced users. You can see what's possible and how it's done.
That's what I found to be difficult. Adobe has many tutorials but mostly for intermediate or advanced users. They should offer some type of classroom exercises for the novice user. I'm having all types of problems with the basics.
The first page I did, I inserted some typeset and it turned out ok.
Well, I'm off to vectortuts.com and hope to learn lots.
Thanks again for your time,
