CPU Fan connector Twilight Zone mystery

    rowby Level 1

      Hello all

This morning, while starting to do my cable management I accidentally pulled out the cpu fan connector.

However when I tried to plug it back in I got confused.

The CPU Cooler is the Noctua NH-D14

The motherboard is the Asus p6x58d premium

When I look at the pins on the motherboard I see there are 4 pins for the CPU fan. (see attached graphic from ASUS manual)

The Notchtua fan connectors has 3 pins.

The Notchua fan also has a "Y" connector that I use to connect the fans to the motherboard.

I know I had connected the fans to the motherboard, somehow, to the CPU fan connector because both fans were spinning whenever I looked at them.  Also when I looked at my Youtube video I see the CPU fan connector connected to the motherbord    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Jwgrpk5U4w at  one minute and 12 seconds into the video.

But looking at the connections now I don't see how I connected the 3 pin connectors to the 4 pin motherboard.

I can't turn on the computer, of course until I figure this out.

Look at the attached graphic which will help explain things.

Am I in the twilight zone?
