You render and export compositions, not layers---just like in Premiere Pro you export sequences, not clips.
Instructions for rendering with the Render Queue panel are here:
There are some simple tutorials here:
BTW, since you are new to After Effects, I very strongly recommend that you start here:
This statement implies volumes. As Todd says, if your'e new, you must learn the application. And, warning, After Effects is weridly complex.
> I can choose any layer and render it, I just don't know how to choose all the layers to render.<
You cannot do that unless you turn off all of the other layers or solo the layer or move the layer to its own self-contained or nested composition. I've never heard of RuffKut but have you talked to them?
Thank you both for your responses.
I finally did the thing I should have done first. I restarted the application. When I did, my nested sequence started working again, in a manner I now understand to be "normally." I don't understand why it was only rendering part of it before. The thing is, my particular installation of the Master Collection is prone to strange errors, and I am used to restarting PPro when it gets weird, but being new to AE I assumed it was user error.
AE is a rocking program! It is so much more powerful than PPro (with which I have several hundred hours under my belt), largely struggling to make it do things that AE is built for. I can't believe I waited this long to start to really use it. It seems ideal the ideal workflow for integrating my Photoshop and Illustrator work into PPro for integration (Is that its intention? I suppose "duh" is the correct response...ahem...). ! look forward to contributing here as I use it more
PS - 30 second clip of clunky stuff I did in PPro I should have been been doing in AE. http://12z.us/ppp.mp4
PPS - the 20 second clip I finally got AE to render... http://12z.us/mc1.mp4 (my color, text, logo customization of Ruffkut "roads to success" template http://bit.ly/c1PQEL note: 2 emails through their site, over 24 hours later and no response from Ruffkut on this issue - 2 responses on this Forum in a few hours. I love the Adobe Community!).
