about to pull the $2000 trigger...

    moroccodriver Level 1

I almost bought this system after studying these forums several weeks ago, but I never got around to actually placing the order.  I'm finally ready to buy, but I wanted to run it by you guys first:

$2020 USD via online custom builder

    • --COOLER MASTER CM 690 II Advanced Black Mid-Tower Case
    • --COOLER MASTER Silent Pro M 1000W
    • --INTEL Core™ i7-930 Quad-Core 2.8GHz
    • --COOLER MASTER Hyper 212 Plus CPU Cooler
    • --KINGSTON 12GB (6 x 2GB) HyperX PC3-12800 DDR3 1600MHz CL9 (9-9-9-27) 1.65V SDRAM DIMM, Non-ECC
    • --PNY XLR8 GeForce® GTX 480
    • --HITACHI 1TB DeskStar® 7K1000.C (HDS721010CLA332), SATA 3 Gb/s, 7200 RPM, 32MB cache
    • --SONY AD-7241S Black 24x DVD±R/RW Dual-Layer Burner w/ Lightscribe, SATA, OEM
    • --MICROSOFT Windows 7 Professional 64-bit Edition, OEM

I'm planning on using 2 identical 7200rpm HD's I already own for a RAID 0 to start with, and switching out the builder's 1TB OS HD for a smaller OS HD so I can eventually use the 1TB HD for future RAID setups.

      1.  Is anything an odd choice or poor use of financial resources?

      2.  Should I save $150 by getting a GTX 470 instead of a GTX 480?  Will the 480 give any advantage if I'm mostly editing RED 4k with only 1-2 layers and 1-3 effects?

      3.  I've always bought DeskStars in the past.  The "C" version of this HD is cheaper than the "B" version, but the C has 32MB cache compared with 16MB on the B.  What's the difference and which is better?  I'm considering eventually getting a total of 4 of these HD's to make a faster/larger RAID 0 or maybe a RAID 10.

      Thanks for your help!
