Did some digging, and I think that the issue may be with the text fields. One thing that you want to do, is make sure that the *.swz file that was generated is in the same directory as the swf.
The next, more drastic, option would be to change all of your text fields from TLF to classic text format.
Hope it helps
thanks so much Brownheezo for digging, but not sure that is it - *.swz file is in the same folder as the swf and all the textfields are Classic... What beats me is that it works fine for other people using same OS.
I now think this is actually to do with Vista and W7 security often (but not always - W7 home edition doesn't seem to) preventing any writing to the Program Files directory post installation. So when my app tries to create its SQLite file, it hangs. Surprised this doesn't seem to have come up for anyone else on the forum - I am sure I am not the only person whose app uses SQLite...

Instead of saving to the application directory (which you've found won't work if you don't have administrator access on vista and above), try saving to applicationStorageDirectory,
Hope this helps,
Yes, thanks so much Chris, I found http://www.switchonthecode.com/tutorials/adobe-air-and-flex-sqlconnection and http://9mmedia.com/blog/?p=55 eventually and fixed the code this morning, happy users again - just my lack of experience writing this kind of app against Vista or W7.
