Premiere Pro CS5 is 64bit only... so to use CS5 you MUST have a 64bit computer and Operating System
I've not upgraded yet, and have only just bought this lovely new machine, so I'm busy configuring it. Looks like 64 bit it is then.
Seems strange it's not offered as an option in the system tools.
>strange it's not offered as an option
What is not offered?
If you are talking about Mac options, I will GUESS that just like Windows, you have to buy/install a 64bit operating system... you can't tell a 32bit OS to run as 64bit
My system is 64 bit capable but came pre-configured from Jigsaw as 32 bit. I've since switched it to 64. Runs fine. So it's 64 bit capable, but defaults to 32..?
This site http://netkas.org/?p=127 says "on all Macs, except xserve, system boots by default 32-bit kernel." So you have to switch it to 64 yourself! (do note that that site predates the i7 Macs - mine is a Core 2 duo).
This is interesting: http://blog.fosketts.net/2009/08/30/64bit-snow-leopard-kernel/ "But Mac OS X can run 64-bit applications regardless of the bitness of the kernel."
So maybe lots of folk think that because their Mac is 64 bit capable and they are running 64 bit apps they must be running a 64 bit kernel, whereas in fact they're not...
Well that's dated March 25, so I guess that has to provide the answer. Cheers!
