Start by upgrading to 10.1.1 - you will need to install 10.1.0: http://download.macromedia.com/pub/director/updates/mx2004/win/dmx2004_101_update_en.exe
and then apply 10.1.1: http://download.macromedia.com/pub/director/updates/mx2004/win/dir_sw_player_update_en.zip
Both these updates are found on the Director downloads page: http://www.adobe.com/support/director/downloads.html
Unfortunately that didn't work its just silly as it was working fine last week with no problems and then just for some reason has this problem. the .exe projector file is still playing the first 15 seconds of the project and then drops out. is it possible a cast member i've added has interferred with the programing or stuffed something up?
thanks for your help though, its greatly appreciated.

Absolutely - what sort of cast members do you use? Anything exotic? Anything that might be being initialised at around 15 seconds?
Do you have xtras bundled into the projector, or an external 'xtras' folder?
Originally i had thought it must of been a cast member as the project worked fine until just randomly it stopped. most of my cast members are
just graphics, text and behaviors. plus those files i just import them into the director file. however originally i had some sounds I used off a free-to-use cd but the sounds didn't work the way i liked so i deleted them and downloaded a couple sound files from a site called flashkit. those sound files are introduced at the start (after that 15seconds) and they're a newer cast member and i can't recall whether i actually tried making the project straight after their introduction.
I'll try deleting those sound files (one by one if needed) and try and see if that'll work and I'll let you know
Well it was a cast member! It wasn't a sound file though, it was a line graphic! The funny thing is, that line graphic has been in the project since i first started creating it and for some reason just decided to stop working and cause director to drop out. is there any reason for this? I've replaced the line graphic with a new line graphic and it seems to work which is awesome I was pulling hair last week trying to fix it when it was something simple as a cast member!
thanks so much for helping and making the time to respond though! I really do appreciate it sean
