John Joslin Jul 12, 2010 3:26 PM (in response to txbonfire)Are you running CS5 on the same computer that was used to create the artwork in CS2?
If so the fonts will still be there.
You may need to clear the font cache(s).
Do a search for and delete all instances of adobefnt*.lst (that extension is .LST).
If you have a new computer you simply copy them over from the old one. (C:\WINDOWS\Fonts)

txbonfire Jul 12, 2010 3:35 PM (in response to John Joslin)John,
I am using a totally different/new computer. All of my CS2 stuff is on my old computer. I do have all of the installation CDs for the CS2 Studio Production. Would this help? I know I cannot install CS2 on this computer, nor do I want to. But if I could grab the fonts and load them in an appropriate forlder.....
I just saw your last sentence about copying the fonts over from the new to the old computer. Can you tell me exactly where I copy from (old computer is XP) and where I copy to (new computer is Windows 7 Pro 64-bit). Would it be C:\Windows\Fonts for both the old and new computer?
Thanks so much for your help,
Angela

On XP it is C:\WINDOWS\Fonts and on Win7 it is the same.
Easiest way, put copies on a USB stick.

txbonfire Jul 12, 2010 4:10 PM (in response to John Joslin)John,
After I copy the "missing fonts" to the new computer, will I need to do anything with the specific applications? Or will the added fonts just show up when I open the application?
Thanks so much!

dec9 Jul 12, 2010 4:56 PM (in response to txbonfire)Here is a link on how to install fonts in Windows 7. Also keep a record on the font names you installed just in case you need to remove them. Sometimes PS does not like fonts and goes bonkers.

The short answer to your question is yes, after installation they should just show up when next you open Photoshop.
As I recall you may need to start the Explorer window(s) via Run as Administrator to get the elevated privileges you'll need to install fonts.

txbonfire Jul 13, 2010 6:38 AM (in response to Noel Carboni)Noel,
Can you explain exactly how to run Windows Explorer as Administrator? I checked my user account via Control Panel / All Control Panel Items / User Accounts and it has my user account listed as Administrator. So, would I still need to open Windows Explorer as you described?
Thanks,
Angela

10. Re: Fonts missing in Photoshop CS5
dec9 Jul 13, 2010 6:57 AM (in response to txbonfire)I was helping someone install fonts using the instructions in the link above and they did not have to run Explorer at a higher elevation. Since you are the Admin on your computer installing the fonts as shown in the link will be just fine. Once the fonts are correctly installed in Windows 7 Photoshop will pick them up.

11. Re: Fonts missing in Photoshop CS5
Noel Carboni Jul 13, 2010 8:32 AM (in response to dec9)Thanks for that clarification, dec9. I wasn't sure (I run all my Windows 7 systems with UAC turned off).
Just for reference, Angela, if you DID want to run an Exploer window as Administrator (which is indeed different than being Administrator for some things), you would do it like this:
1. Click Start, then All Programs, then Accessories.
2. Right-click on Windows Explorer, and choose Run as administrator.
Use the Windows help system to find the What is User Account Control? topic for more info on this often confusing feature of Windows 7.

Bill Hunt Jul 13, 2010 9:47 AM (in response to txbonfire)Angela,
Because of similar questions in the PrPro forum, I want to make sure that you did get the font issues solved.
These folk have given you the details that should work for you. As I am not on Win7, all the suggestions that I made, regarding fonts, might well be different. Just want to make sure that you have all of your fonts.
Good luck,
Hunt

13. Re: Fonts missing in Photoshop CS5
txbonfire Jul 13, 2010 1:50 PM (in response to Bill Hunt)Thank you all for the advice! This issue is resolved. Here are the steps I executed per your advice:
1. Copy all fonts from my XP machine (C:\Windows\Fonts) to a CD
2. Install needed fonts from the CD to the my Windows 7 machine (C:\Windows\Fonts)
3. Opened Photoshop projects with "missing" fonts and they opened just fine!
4. NOTE: The only issue I had was the LithosPro Bold font. On the Windows 7 machine, it does have LithosPro Reg and Black (but not bold). And I could not find the specific Lithos Pro Bold font on my XP machine.
Thank you again!

14. Re: Fonts missing in Photoshop CS5
txbonfire Jul 26, 2010 5:10 PM (in response to txbonfire)One follow-up question concerning the "missing fonts" issue.....
With Photoshop CS5, if the font is missing the program will alert you. Because of these alerts, I was able to determine which fonts were missing in my Photoshop projects and install the missing fonts.
Unfortunately, Premiere Pro CS5 will use the "next best" font if a font is missing. Therefore, I was trying to determine which fonts were "incorrect" within my APP CS5 projects and install the missing fonts accordingly.
My question.....I have approx 360 fonts from my XP computer. Would there be any harm in installing all of these fonts on my Windows 7 computer, to make sure I cover my bases? Currently, there are approx 300 fonts on my Windows 7 computer.
I have verified that if I try to install a font that is currently on my Windows 7 computer, I will get a prompt asking if I want to replace the existing font. Obviously in this case, I would not replace an Windows 7 font with a Windows XP font.
Take care,
Angela

16. Re: Fonts missing in Photoshop CS5
drjury Dec 23, 2010 7:00 PM (in response to txbonfire)I wish I could get this response to all missing font people in Adobe.
I began losing fonts in PS, FC, FW on XP and went nuts finding a correction.
Go to Ctrl.Panel > FONTS > FOLDER OPTIONS > TRUE TYPE FONTS >
unclick: Show only True Type fonts in the programs on my computer.
I rebooted and had most all my fonts back in Adobe programs.
Some of the fonts showing Type 1 symbols in the system/fonts folder
were also True Type. This allowed them to appear in Adobe TYPE
drop downs.
