I have a existing ActionScript 2 project, with which I want to create a separate AS2 library which will give me access to debug output. From the research I've done on the web it looks as though there is only trace() statements and getTimer() functions which are available in AS2. I've read about the flash.sampler class in AS3, which gives you access to profile memory usage, is there something similar in AS2?
Are there any 3rd party profiling libraries for AS2?
you can load your as2 swf into an as3 debugger swf and use all the as3 classes to debug your as2 swf. you'll need to use localconnection to communicate between the two which is awkward but serviceable.
Thanks for the reply, I have another related question. If I load a AS2 swf inside the AS3 swf, will this allow me to access memory and performance information via the flash.sampler API of the AS2 swf?
yes, (if you publish your as3 for fp10).
