This is really weird. I've recently setup xp sp3 again, using an old disk image. Everything is working great except for my ability to search the contexts of pdf files using Windows Desktop Search 4. The pdf field in WDS4 advanced settings / file types is grayed out - although "search contents" is actually chosen.
I've tried uninstalling and re-installing several times to no avail. I even tried going back to 8.2., also no dice. I even tried installingthe iFox ifilter - which was very intersting: the installation program couldn't compelte, since it said it couldn't register a dll.
Can anyone help me figure out how to find the problem? I need WDS very, very much for the work I do.
Install the iFilter from Adobe.
Thanks you for the tip - but no dice!
The Adobe iFilter installs without error messags, but pdfs are still not indexed and the pdf field under Search Options\Advanced\File Types is still grayed out.
Maybe someone could just help me figure how to do a radical uninstall that removes every last trace of adobe form the registry, then re-install?
