What OS are you on?
Was Flash CS5 working and then stopped working at some point? Or, has it never worked on that machine? If it was working at some point, can you try resetting your Flash workspace before creating a new FLA file?
Also, please verify that you don't have any corrupt fonts on your system.
Finally, did you submit a crash report?
Firstly, I'm using Windows XP.
Flash didn't work from when I installed it (earlier today).
And can you please explain what you mean by corrupt fonts? Is it the different letter styles such as Arial and Times New Roman or something else?
Edit: And I did send an error report.

On WinXP, you'd have to use a font manager software to check if any fonts are corrupted (i.e. the font has bad glyphs that can't be displayed by the OS).
Are you able to use previous versions of Flash on that machine?
Does Flash CS5 work if you use a different user-account?
(Thanks for being so helpful so far.)
I just have a few more questions:
Is the Font Manager pre-installed on Windows XP or do I have to download it?
Can you please send me a download link to an older Flash version that would probably work?
I don't have any other user accounts on my computer.
Windows doesn't have a built-in font manager software. You will have to use a third-party software. Most of them have a 30-day trial.
One way to rule out corrupt fonts is to create a new user account on your machine and use Flash as that user. The new user account will have default settings (and fonts) and will be helpful in narrowing down the problem by ruling out user-specific settings.
Well, thank you for all your help so far but my free trail of Flash has expired and it is much too expensive for me to buy.
