1. Re: Type tool makes CS5 crash
Chris Cox Jul 16, 2010 10:31 AM (in response to BearHNC)Did you install the 12.0.1 update?
Did you validate your fonts using FontBook (or other font utility)?
Did you read the other topics in this forum about font crashes and how to troubleshoot them?
Most of the font related crashes we're seeing in 12.0.1 are bugs in MacOS that we can't really avoid -- Apple is working on them, but we have no ETA for the fixes.

3. Re: Type tool makes CS5 crash
susansundance Jul 26, 2010 1:11 AM (in response to BearHNC)I thought I would share what worked for me after not being able to use CS5 for 3 weeks. I've been researching, troubleshooting fonts and numerous methods and suggestions I've read on the web.
This is my computer: MacPro Desktop G5 Dual Core Xenon 14GB ram OSX.5.8
(1) Validate Fonts in Fontbook, make sure you get rid of any fonts causing problems.
(2) Shutdown computer
(3) Restart in Safe mode (Press button on front of desktop machine, immediately hold Down the Shift key when you here the first restart bong, hold it down until you see the apple logo and a progress spinning wheel. Next the Login dialog box will appear with the words Safe Boot in Red letters. Then type in your Admin password In the supplied text box.
(4) Launch Photoshop, open a file, click the Type tool you should see the Type tool Cursor. It might take a short wait to see a font name appear in the options bar text box. When the type name pops in (Myriad Pro may be the default) You should be able to start typing again. Check out the font list, it will be a short list of the minimal font collection that OSX runs with in Safe Boot mode.
(5) Quit Photoshop and Shutdown your machine
(6) Start up your machine again (don't hold the shift key this time)
(7) Launch Photoshop and open a file. You should see a Type tool cursor, and you should be good to go.
Hopefully you will get the same result as me and you" ll be back in business What’s happening is that all the permissions are being re-written in safe boot.
I hope this helps some of you bummed people out there! I am a happy camper.
PS I was aCS5 Beta Tester
