    absolute and relative positining confusion

    iconofsin14 Level 1

I always thought that the difference between absolute and relative posioning was that absolute was positioned from the body tags top left corner and relative was from the containing items top left corner.

However i have found that if i put a DIV inside another div the inner div is positioned relative to its pearent div regardless of which one i use (relative or absolute)

the only difference i found is that a block level element with relative positioning cannot occupy the same line as another block level element with reltive positioning
if at least one of them uses absolute positioning them they can occupy the same line and even the same space.
