    flash vs C++

    the_missing_link Community Member

      I am really trying to decide if I should stay with flash for all my game design or move into C++. C++ is pretty easy to use and has a few similarities to flash, like how functions work. I am very skeptical on Flash for all game use, because I do not know of a game console that runs flash without a browser, like the wii. I want to be able to produce games on a disc or download. I know flash is still good for some things, but is it good for all? Definetly not for cellphone use, unless you have a flash enabled android or a jail break iPhone. For Cellphone use, like Websites I am more in favor of RoR, Ruby on Rails.

          I don't thing this is a question of one or the other. Both are totally different in regard to the environment the live in, and RoR is another totally incomparable thing, as it is a server-side framework...

          Some of your statements are very superficially thought through in my opinion, e. g. your thoughts about mobile use of programming environment mostly reflect the "No Flash on Apple Devices and soon to be a lot of Flash on Android" Buzz. For one thing it has not a lot (if at all) to do with C++ and you utterly miss out on Java which would be a reasonable choice as far as reach is an argument. (Not that I would recommend Java as a mobile development platform at all)

          But I stop my blubbering, as I wantetd to ask you what it is exactly your seeking wisdom on by starting this discussion?

            What I am asking is which language is best for game design in this era? I know flash can do it, but recent data shows that people are straying away from desktops to tablets and other devices, which as far as I am aware of aren't by default flash enabled. I want my games to reach consoles, iPhones(yes, you can program in C++ for the iPhone, there is an SDK not made by apple, but  apple allows programs made in it in the app store.) I also believe at the 2009 Adobe conference, or in the adobe labs I heard something about a new language that is a mixture of C or C++, with flex or as3.... could someone tell me if I am remembering this right.
