    Showing PART of an image

    serg2049 Level 1
      I remember there was an option in a version of dreamweaver that allowed you to show only part of an image. How is it done? Foor example if the image is 50px X 50px, have it only show 20px X 20px

      Also is it possible to also show an specific part of the image, like the center or bottom?

          You're better off cropping/resizing/resampling in a graphics editing
          program like Photoshop to adjust your images. (Or you can use the basic
          image tools within DW to crop/resize/resample.) Cropping an image on the
          fly is not something HTML can do, though it is possible with javascript
          or CSS.

          Changing a 50x50 image to display at 20x20 is a bad idea as the image
          will [a] lose quality and users are still forced to download the
          50x50 file at full size. Again, better to resize, resample to 20x20 and
          let users download the smaller file.

            I've used DW since DW2, and have never seen such an option. Perhaps you are
            thinking of a clip region?

            Why not just make another image?

            Not that I can think of.

              You misread the question. OP wants to only display a part of the image, not
              resize it.

                Murray - No. I read it correctly.
                "image is 50px X 50px, have it only show 20px X 20px"
                But my response was to 2 scenarios - either clip/crop a 50x50 to display
                a 20x20 region, or display the full image at the smaller 20x20 size.

                In any case - you and I are in agreement that DW doesn't offer such an
                option (except for maybe clipping it in an AP div)

                  Actually, it's HTML which doesn't offer this option...

                  One other way to do it would be something like:

                  <style type="text/css">
                  #showimage {
                  height : 20px ;
                  width : 20px ;
                  background-image : url(myimage.jpg) ;
                  /* adjust below to suit */
                  background position : center center ;
                  }
                  </style>

                  <!-- ... -->

                  <div id="showimage">
                  <img src="trans.gif" height="20" width="20" alt='' title='' />
                  </div>

                    I think it's the clip option, can you explain it, I can;'t find the option in any window of DW

                      It's CSS, not HTML. Look in the O'Reilly CSS Reference part of the
                      Reference Panel. When you understand it, please explain it to me.

                      It was never easy to use in any version of DW. Previous versions restricted
                      its use to what it called "layers".

                      Be aware that IE clips differently than the rest of the universe....
