    CS4: Play button is missing?!

I have Premiere Pro CS4.  I opened it up one day, and the play button was missing.  I don't know what to do to fix this!

I have tried restarting my computer, opening new projects, and nothing has worked.

      Here are my specs:

OS: Windows 7 64-Bit Home Premium

      Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU    Q8400  @ 2.66GHz (4 CPUs), ~2.7Ghz

      Memory: 6142MB RAM

Card name: ATI Radeon HD 4650

Everything is on my C:/ Drive.

UPDATE: I can use the space bar to make the video play, but for some reason it just plays the sound, and the video is frozen.  Then, when I press space bar again, to pause, it moves to that frame that I paused at.

I have never had an issue like this before.

Wow my friend was having the EXACT same problem on the same date as  you! LOL I have been trying to fix it for her and FINALLY I did!!!

Tried everything from reinstallation, new projects, etc and NOTHING worked!!!

Then  for some reason I decided to click on "Window" on the menu bar without  even thinking and then clicked "Program Monitor"!!! PROBLEM SOLVED!!!

There  are TWO different views. One called "Program Monitor" and the other  called "Reference Monitor" and the annoying thing is they look nearly  identical but function differently!!!

So all this time you had "Reference Monitor" open instead of "Program Monitor".

I  registered and created an account just to help you out because I can  see the frustration my friend was going through. This will probably be  my only post! LOL

Have a good day and all the best from Australia!!!

Welcome to the forum, and thanks for that.

If that's the cause of the OP's problem, then Window>Workspace>Reset Workspace (or similar syntax) would bring up the default Workspace with the Program Monitor.

            @ the OP,

For the playback that is only Audio, can you please give us details on your Project/Sequence Preset, and then the full details of your source footage?

            Good luck,

            Hunt

Thank you so much! The video playback worked perfectly after I got rid of the "reference monitor!"

              Thanks!

That is great news, and glad to hear it.

I have to admit that I would never have thought that the Reference Monitor might have been launched - at least not in this lifetime! Now, I have another tip to pass along. Thanks for that.
