    File/folder organization on your drive

This is a basic question about the best way to organize your picture/media files that is best suited for finding them in Bridge.   I currently have many, many sub-folders that, in a somewhat lame way, categorize the files into events and dates - thousands of pictures.  I'm in the process of assigning keywords and renaming them (thankfully that is not too big of a task in Bridge), but I want to be able to filter, or 'see' only those with a specific set of keywords.  That does not seem to work across sub-folders.

I'm no doubt missing something and I'll be honest, I'm not a reader of documentation (I'm a male).

So, how does everyone else organize their 'stuff' on the hard drive to maximize the features for Bridge?

      Thanks in advance,

          You're missing Lightroom

That's positively the best piece of software for keywording and filtering for keywords.

In Bridge if you press Ctrl+F (Windows) or Cmd+F (Mac) you get a search box in which you can define a set of search strings.

That's the most specific way you can search within Bridge.

Perhaps because I spent most of my working life as an engineering designer, and then as a software designer/programmer I'm used to working with file number/names and a decent drawing/file retreival system, so I have all mine in one folder.   Yes it gets big, but using Bridge with keywords and it's filter, it's pretty simple to find a file.   I have previously moved raw and psd files to separate folders to speed up search times when I was using CS2, just leaving small jpg in the main folder.   However, having just moved to CS5 speed is no longer a problem.   I reckon they may all go back together.

Search works down the directory tree from the start point.  So choose your start point high enougth so folders you want to search will be included.  This assumes of course these sub folders are indexed.
