1. Re: Photoshop CS2 hogs RAM even when all the documents are closed.
John Joslin Aug 2, 2010 8:42 AM (in response to rad_thundercat)As I understand it, Photoshop keeps the RAM allocated to avoid fragmentation but will release it if other applications need it.

2. Re: Photoshop CS2 hogs RAM even when all the documents are closed.
Bart Cross Aug 2, 2010 8:44 AM (in response to rad_thundercat)Photoshop allots itself exclusive access to parts of RAM, that is just the way it is while your using it.
I take you get your RAM back when you close Photoshop when you are not using it. I don't see the problem.

Curt Y Aug 2, 2010 10:08 AM (in response to rad_thundercat)How much of the available RAM do you have allocated to PS? More than 60-70%?

4. Re: Photoshop CS2 hogs RAM even when all the documents are closed.
Noel Carboni Aug 2, 2010 10:16 AM (in response to rad_thundercat)The answer is given above; that is just how it works. It shouldn't really affect your system performance much if you have enough virtual memory configured, and if you've not overdone it on the amount of RAM you allow Photoshop to use.
I just close Photoshop when I'm done using it.

5. Re: Photoshop CS2 hogs RAM even when all the documents are closed.
John Joslin Aug 2, 2010 10:25 AM (in response to Noel Carboni)You don't even have to close Photoshop. If it is not actively using the RAM, it will release it.
That's what people who should know have said.

rad_thundercat Aug 2, 2010 1:16 PM (in response to John Joslin)Awesome replies guys, thanks.
So the short of it is: it's a feature, not a bug. Amirite?
