1. Re: Effects not coming over in conversion to PDF
Scott Falkner Aug 3, 2010 7:44 PM (in response to auctioneer)Is this meant for print? Why would you need a white background, versus no background at all? And why would it be at 50%? In what way is this 50% white background not showing in your PDF?

p taz Aug 3, 2010 8:03 PM (in response to auctioneer)White is not a colour... you can get white to go 'on top' of things in non postscript scenarios like on screen or desktop printers but in high end print, it usually tries to 'overprint' and since it is not a colour it just disappears!
That is an over-simplified explanation, but basically you need to look at what you are trying to achieve with that in mind... Its a half full - half empty kind of thing...

[Jongware] Aug 4, 2010 1:36 AM (in response to p taz)Print it to your desktop printer and see if that page is half transparent. If so, then it works.
If you could change the paper color's opacity on screen, when you make it fully transparent, what would you see? The desktop background under InDesign? The innards of your monitor?

auctioneer Aug 4, 2010 2:55 AM (in response to Scott Falkner)Yes this is for print.
The 50% opacity is a choice to help the text standout, without the text is placed on a busy background.
This is the doc http://www.auctionontario.ca/FORUMdoc.pdf
You can clearly see there is no white background on the last page (Terms & Conditions) The background for the text didn't come over in the conversion to PDF, however the first page with the trim specs did come over.
If needed I can post the original file.
I'm stumped ;-))

Eugene Tyson Aug 4, 2010 3:36 AM (in response to auctioneer)I'd very much like to see the file - I suspect the background has a transparency blend mode, instead of Normal.

7. Re: Effects not coming over in conversion to PDF
auctioneer Aug 4, 2010 6:53 AM (in response to Eugene Tyson)Thanks for the response...I'm working and don't have access to the orig file until after 6pm EST. Can I attach the orig file to this forum? I do believe I have a transparency applied to this, however I'm still not clear on why the background doesn't carry-over to the PDF. I should probably ask how I get the blend mode to 'normal' while maintaining a degree of transparency or is this impossible? Can you suggest a work around?
Thanks again..
