    Im a newbie: please help

      Hi, no one is replying to my URGENT thread : http://forums.adobe.com/thread/693612

          i skipped your post because i don't download files.  and generally, the more you ask forum contributors to do, the less likely it is that you'll get help.

          if you throw up your hands and say, "i know nothing, help me", it's unlikely you'll get help and you should hire someone to do this for you.

          if you can do enough to pinpoint your problem it's highly likely you will be offered a solution to your problem via the flash forums.

            Now My Problem Is: is there an equivellant of the GET function [php] (that gets the but after the question mark e.g. it would get the following text "HelloWorld" from this url index.php?text=HelloWorld.) in ActionScript. sorry  if i explained it badly. if you have a solution please explain i t because i am a total newbie.

              you can use javascript to retrieve the url with query string (location.href)  and you can use the externalinterface class in flash to call a javascript function.  if you know there's exactly one variable/value, you can use:

              // in html

              <script type="text/javascript">
                 function locationF(){
                    return location.href;
                 }
              </script>

              // in flash

              var urlS:String = ExternalInterface.call("locationF");

              var queryS:String = urlS.substring(urlS.indexOf("?")+1);

              var queryA:Array = queryS.split("=");

              // queryA[0] will be your variable name (text, in your example);

              // queryA[1] will be your variable value (HelloWorld, in your example);

                  iranten: i guess your only here to criticize me, i accept i made a mistake (mabe even a big one) and im sorry but this does not make me feel welcome.

                  Kglad: if you want you can give me instructions on how to make that code into text in adobe flash.

                  ive inserted the code into the first frame and the html file but nothing comes up in the flash document.Untitled.png

                    Hi HumzaBobat,

                    Please....my apologies, that's not the way i meant it.

                    I learnt whatever I know about Flash, the hard Way....the same path that you are treading.

                    I am sure Kglad, didn't mean what he said, either.

                    What both of us are suggesting, is that you do some research before, you post a question - Don't just throw your hands up.

                    There's a much better Flash help site than this. Do check it out here:

                    http://www.flashkit.com/

                    You'll find me there under my same name.

                    And no..

                    no question is ever stupid....unless and untill, you never tried to find answers, by experimenting, but rather coming running straight to the board/forum
