    LiveCycle has unhandled win32 exception

    kaypent

      Hi, Everybody.

LiveCycle was running fine when I logged out last night.  This morning opening last nights file produced a "unhandled win32 exception occurred in FormDesigner.exe[5864]. and asked if I wanted to debug.

When I selected NO, LiveCycle shut down.

When I select yes, the message from Visual Studio was

      First-chance exception at 0x004a50cb in FormDesigner.exe: 0xC0000005: Access violation reading location 0x00000000

I'm running XP Professional x64 Edition SP2.  There should have been no updates overnight, but after LiveCycle didn't work I rebooted and there were some updates.

Any one know whats going on here?  I need this program!!

      Thanks!

      Kay

There are some user specific settings that are kept in the Documents and Settings area. My guess is that the update chnage the rights to access this area and we can no longer read the files that are there. If you go to this location:

          c:/Documents and Settings/user login name/Application Data/Adobe/Designer/

There should be a directory with the version number there. Delete this directory and launch designer again. The directory will be recreated on launch.

Thank you, thank you, that worked.

My Boss can't run it, either, and he's running Windows 7...

Where would it be on Windows 7??

            Thanks again!!

This is where it is on my machine

              C:\Users\userName\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Designer\9.0

You can do a search on your C drive for ScriptEditor.ini file and that will give you th elocation on your specific machine.

                Hi,

My boss does not have a 9.0 file to delete; there is no reference to a file location in ScriptEditor.ini...

And he still can't run liveCycle.  What do we try next?

                Thank you,

                Kay

Is there a Designer folder on that path? If so delete that and try it again. If not then the only other thing is an uninstall / reinstall. Make sure that you reboot after the uninstall before reinstalling

Are you talking about the designer folder under users?  He deleted that one, and it still crashes as soon as the welcome screen comes up.  It never completely opens.

In my case, it didn't crash until after I loaded the file, and after it prompted for font mismatch. It also crashed if I clicked Options, but let me see the Help menu.

So should my Boss just uninstall/reinstall LiveCycle or does he need to uninstall/reinstall all of CS3 ? How does this affect the activation?  And he's running LiveCycle 8.0.

                    Thanks,

                    Kay

No just Designer should be sufficient .....I don't think Designer has any activation in it. Remember to reboot between the uninstall and the reinstall.

Was this working before an system update happened (on your boses machine)? Or has it always failed on this Win 7 machine?

Although I hate to have you much with the registry  ...this key may need to be deleted.

                            HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adobe\Designer\8.2

Can you do that and try launching the app again?

The program ran successfully when he first installed Windows 7, but that was a long time ago.

Here's what happened when he made the registry change and reloaded:

Just want to validate ...the updates that were applied that broke the code were to Windows or to Designer/Acrobat?

OK lets take a step back .....are you launching Designer from the link in Acrobat or on its own. If from Acrobat are you getting the welcome screen then it crashes? Can you elaborate as to the steps you take to cause the crash.

Your issue is displaying the symptoms of the profile being corrupted. Thats what we did to fix your issue .(deleted the corrupted profile) ...when we looked for the INI earlier I am wondering if you did not have the viewing options on to view an INI file hence the file could not be found . So lets do a search for a different file (one that will not be hidden by the system). How about looking for the file Button.xfo

If you find it have a look at the path and see if it is similar to the one that was mentioned earlier. If so delete the 8.x directory in the Designer/8.x path an dtry again.

                                  Thanks for your patience

The updates to WinXP that I think might have broken LiveCycle were to WinXP -- I'm pretty sure that it was an update to windows since it was working the night before.

That particular problem seems to have fixed, although I am having crashes again but that's the other issue... the recalcitrant copy "undocumented feature."

My bosses problem, which has not been fixed, is totally different.  He had not used LiveCycle for "a long time" and when I couldn't get mine to run, he tried his, and that's when he discovered it wasn't working on Windows 7.  All the dumps have been from his machine.

We didn't see any recent updates to LiveCycle, but there have been many Windows 7 updates during the "long time" that he hadn't used LiveCycle.
