I am trying to find a way to use a BarChart from within Actionscript and to have the bar display the series in individual re-occuring 'slices' rather than summing all the data into 'buckets'. For example a set of bars where each bar would have say a blue slice, then a red slice, then another blue slice etc. where each slice is the visualization of a time period from the series. Each time period might be arbitrarily large or small.
I would like to do this without somehow trying to clone the entire bar chart and all it's complexity.
So far the only solution I've found is to use a fillFunction, supplying an already drawn bitmap rectangle with the slices already drawn for each bar. This feels very hackish.
Is there a better way?
You're interested in custom rendering of chart items, so go ahead and write your own item renderer class. This gives you the means drawing whatever you want.
Note: the Data Visualization library is open source now, so you can find it on the Flex source repository with a little digging.
Thank you. That's exactly the thing I was looking for.
