1. Re: Span/Split cols involving tables & deleting rows/cols across spreads causes InDesign to crash
Eugene Tyson Aug 6, 2010 4:23 AM (in response to Eugene Tyson)Anyone else having the same issue? Or replicate the crash?

Frans van der Geest Aug 18, 2010 6:23 AM (in response to Eugene Tyson)I've followed you steps, having a table in two columns that run on two pages and have header row to repeat on the next page. Deleted two rows that ran on both pages, works fine here, no crash. version 7.02 CS5...

3. Re: Span/Split cols involving tables & deleting rows/cols across spreads causes InDesign to crash
Eugene Tyson Aug 18, 2010 8:26 AM (in response to Frans van der Geest)I'm going to keep testing this.
Admitedly, I have crashes sometimes just copying text, cutting text and that does not involve tables or spanned columns.
It's very strange.

Frans van der Geest Aug 18, 2010 8:42 AM (in response to Eugene Tyson)The cutting and pasting problem I noticed also. After pasting sometimes CS5 (even 7.02) simply hangs on me (Mac Pro, Os X 10.6, 12GB RAM). Sometimes doing calculations (like 210-140 mm) in a field also hangs InDesign...

5. Re: Span/Split cols involving tables & deleting rows/cols across spreads causes InDesign to crash
Eugene Tyson Aug 18, 2010 8:55 AM (in response to Frans van der Geest)Interesting indeed. I posted on another thread topic that I had to rebuild a document, and this was today.
It was all text, with nothing special. I had some Keep Options set in bullets manually as it was necessary.
But for some reason when deleting a line of text at a certain point the program crashed.
I had to copy and paste the text to a new document, and continue from there (including copying content from master pages etc.) but the thing was that the special cases of Keep options I had manually inserted were gone and I had to redo them.
Very strange behaviour. I'm beginning to think this is a more serious problem than I first thought.

6. Re: Span/Split cols involving tables & deleting rows/cols across spreads causes InDesign to crash
FivePicaPica Aug 18, 2010 9:01 AM (in response to Eugene Tyson)Do you by any chance have an object style applied? I occasionally get crashes if I've applied an object style. I usually just set it to none, do my table edits and reapply.

7. Re: Span/Split cols involving tables & deleting rows/cols across spreads causes InDesign to crash
Eugene Tyson Aug 18, 2010 9:04 AM (in response to FivePicaPica)No object style - these are tables, so they can't have object styles.

8. Re: Span/Split cols involving tables & deleting rows/cols across spreads causes InDesign to crash
Eugene Tyson Aug 18, 2010 9:06 AM (in response to FivePicaPica)Sorry I misunderstood you.
I have a text frame with 2 columns which I set it as an object style.
BUT the document I had to rebuild today has no Object Style. I just tried your suggestion of setting the Frame to NONE and it still crashed.

9. Re: Span/Split cols involving tables & deleting rows/cols across spreads causes InDesign to go bye bye
Marina Michaels Oct 29, 2010 1:27 AM (in response to Eugene Tyson)I have problems with ID CS5 consistently crashing with a document that has tables. Here are all the setups in which it crasehs:
1. Single text frames with two columns in them. Tables are following the columns.
2. Same as before, but with table dragged out to span the columns. Dragged-out tables overlap themselves.
3. Same as before, tables continue from one page to the next.
4. Same as before only text frames now set to one column.
Crashes consistently whenever I try to do anything.
I am now carefully rebuilding the same document a table at a time. It might have something to do with text copied and pasted from FrameMaker or placed from Word.

10. Re: Span/Split cols involving tables & deleting rows/cols across spreads causes InDesign to go bye bye
Eugene Tyson Oct 29, 2010 1:35 AM (in response to Marina Michaels)Have you upgrade to the latest verson of InDesign? There's been a few updates since.
And I am still getting buginess with all this too.

11. Re: Span/Split cols involving tables & deleting rows/cols across spreads causes InDesign to go bye bye
Marina Michaels Oct 29, 2010 5:42 AM (in response to Eugene Tyson)Yes, I have automatic updates enabled, so I have the latest updates.
I noticed that when I had placed the Word file containing the tab-delimited data, it brought in a Normal paragraph style, which is to be expected. Once I deleted that Normal paragraph style, the crashes seem to have greatly reduced. Mind you, that's in the file I am rebuilding, not in the original file that was crashing every time I tried to do anything.
As a side note, if FrameMaker 7.2 is open, ID slows down to a crawl. I can type a hundred characters and then watch them appear at the rate of a character every 2 to 3 seconds. However, I don't think FM is implicated here as I had it closed during all the crashing.
