Links won't work once burned to a CD

    Aly22 Level 1
I have made a Dreamweaver site and when I burned all of my information onto a CD the links that I created will not work. However, when I tested the website links in Firefox the links worked, in Internet Explorer they did not. This is not a website that I am publishing to the Internet, rather I am burning it onto a CD.

I have little training in Dreamweaver and do not know code. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Post some code from one of the pages links that fails to work...I have an idea what the issue is but without seeing the code there's no way of knowing forsure.

first- are the paths you used Document Relative?
Don't use site root relative paths for this.
Look at the code- is there a leading /slash like <a href=/page.html ?

second- depending on how the disc was burned, it's possible that the
files/folder names are in DOS 8.3 format. Are the filenames on the cd the
exact same as they should be? And- same caSe after the burn?

Day after day, we see this, almost as though it exonerates the
questioner. Learn the basics of (X)HTML and CSS, and using Dreamweaver
              becomes relatively straightforward.

Of course, we are all beginners to start with. If you're willing to
learn, excellent - welcome to the club. If you "don't have time" to
learn the basics of web design, you'll spend far more time flailing
around searching for answers. Grab a good book like Elizabeth Castro's
"HTML, XHTML & CSS", or go to www.w3schools.com for some free tutorials.

As soon as I finish my project I will try all of your suggestions. Thank you for you responses.

Here is the code to one of the links:

                  <img name="DOCSNew_r2_c3" src="../New Docs/DOCS/DOCS New_r2_c3.jpg" width="215" height="12" border="0" id="DOCSNew_r2_c3" alt="" />

Basically what I am doing is in Dreamweaver i click on the item I want to link. Then I go to the link option (it says javascript in the box before I link anything to it) and I drag the point to file tool to the document I want linked.

The documents that I have linking are PDF files. All of the links I have going to websites work, but none of the links to PDF files work. Maybe I am linking them wrong? it is strange because everything works in Firefox.

                  Thank you for your help!

two guesses- the filenames for the pdf files have blanks spaces and/or
                    punctuation in them?

or- the link may be correct, but the cd is in a more restricted "zone" of
security and won't open the helper app, And you aren't seeing the notice
because you've clicked some "never show again" dialog box.

google on "mark of the web" and put an html comment for it within the head
                    of every html file.

tip- find and replace-->specific tag-->head insert before closing tag

Actually- I just did that google, and it may be that the pdf won't open
because you DO have the mark of the web....

Thank you Alan! I will try that. I do have blank spaces in the file name so I will try that first.

                        Alan,

I changed all of my filenames for my PDF and word files to not have blank spaces and that did not work. I then tried the "mark of the web" suggestion. I changed all or my code from <!-- saved from url=(0014)about:internet --> to <!-- saved from url=(0014)H:\AAManualCD\Main.htm --> which is the address of my main [page and that did not work either. Did I do this wrong? Is it because it is trying to take files from my personal drive folder (the "H" drive)? Do I need to have an http://www." address?

                        Thank you for any help!
