webcam recording delay of video ... out of sync with sound

    hou5ton

When using Elements 8 to record video from my webcam, (Logitech QuickCam Pro 9000) there is a delay in the video ... and the video and sound are not in sync.  For some reason the delay/sync issue doesn't appear to be there with Roxio. However, if I use the Logitech software that came with the webcam, all is fine unless I set it for a higher resolution ... then the delay issue comes back.

      I'm using a HP laptop ... Windows 7 .. Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU    T6500 @ 2.10 GHz   .... 4 GB RAM .... 64 bit OS

PrE is designed to Capture from miniDV tape, and not for Capture from a Webcam.

I would use the software included, and then Save/Export to a file format/CODEC, that PrE can easily edit. What is the resolution of your Webcam footage?

          Good luck,

            Medium: 640x480

It has a setting for Large: 960x720 but there seems to be a slight delay in response time.

It also has a setting for Max: 2MP, but then the video is seriously delayed from realtime.

I'm trying to get quality video recorded for courses I teach.

This could be either a latency in the equipment, or with the system in the recording process.

Can you furnish the details of your system, especially the I/O sub-system, i.e. your HDD's, their size, speed, free space, controller type and how you have them allocated? Could well be something there.

              Good luck,

That is part of it. The I/O sub-system is the HDD's. How many do you have? How large are they? What is their speed? How much free space do you have? How do you have them allocated?

                  An example would be:

All 7200 RPM SATA II internals,

                  C:\ OS, programs and Page File - 500GB w/ 300GB free

                  D:\ Project files and Scratch Disks - 500GB w/ 250GB free

                  E:\ Media files - 500GB w/ 125GB free

                  Hope that helps,

OK, it looks like you have one physical HDD and it is partitioned. This ARTICLE will give you some background on partitions, especially when doing video editing.

                      Good luck,
