With Acrobat 8 Pro I could use the Reduce File Size command to significantly reduce the PDF file size (by about 20%), and image quality was good. Most images in my files are JPGs, and there are lots of them--about 90 in a 150-page PDF--so, the PDFs are very big files to begin with.
With Acrobat 9 (Pro), this same command reduces the file size greatly (maybe by 70-80%), but the image quality is terribly degraded. I am aware of the PDF Optimizer, but I have tried many different settings, but to get size reduction comparable to what I was getting with Acrobat 8, Reduce File Size, the image quality is poor—“blotchy” in appearance with extra pixels added around objects. I’ve read help files and forum messages, but I don’t really see a solution.
Any ideas for better results?
It’s a surprise to me to see an Acrobat feature that is degraded compared to previous versions.
