    How do I edit .MOV format video's - PE8?

    Ajaxspank

I just received PE8 with the purchase of a new laptop and I tried to import to PE8 some recent video's we shot on our iPhone4 and

it seems they are in .MOV format (Quicktime?). The error message suggests we may need some sort of codec, or it won't work at all.

Can anyone tell me the straight forward solution to this problem? Do I, or can I, convert this format to another, or is there a codec I need, or is there a completely different solution?

      Thank you in advance.

          Welcome to the forum.

Unfortunately a MOV format is but a wrapper. Almost anything can be in that file.

My first guess would be that your iPhone shoots/records to H.264, which is a possible version of MOV, but is usually in an MP4 "wrapper." This ARTICLE will give you some background on the concept of a "wrapper," and will give you some tips on finding out what is inside - basically the CODEC.

Now, what version of Apple's QT Player do you have installed? It normally also installs their version of the H.264 CODEC.

          Good luck,
