Pijetro Aug 20, 2010 8:44 PM (in response to able123)Thank you robodog2....
That's a great link....But it doesn't explain the export option in AME specifically. Mpeg2 for DVD export has both Progressive and Interlaced presets.
My question is what and why is this necessary? Even progressive footage can be encoded as interlaced....
My only guess is the scanning mode of the encoder...
In more advanced encoders, you are allowed the option of using "Alternate" and "Zig Zag" scan modes for progressive and interlaced footage respectively.
I simply wanted to confirm my suspicions
Thanks to Jim Simon for a helpful answer (for a second time)..
Being that you have over 1000 posts, i'll respect your position here.
Otherwise, if my post was confusing, i'll try to esplaine a bit better next time...

Because you may have either as source. You should match your export settings to your source.
In more advanced encoders...
I've found the MC encoder Adobe includes to be somewhat lacking in professional options myself.

5. Re: AME question...NTSC Progressive vs. Interlaced for export
able123 Aug 21, 2010 7:29 AM (in response to JSS1138)this is pretty good for info about interlacing, deinterlacing ( progressive )
for PAL countries...
It uses DivX samples but DONT USE DIVX ( dont download anything divX as it messes stuff up for premiere...
This is just to scan through it to get general ideas about whats up
It doesnt show a diagram for zig zag and alternate, but you can google that and get info about that..
-----------
once you look thru this article you should have a good idea whats up and WHY you have the options you do with exporting..

Pijetro Aug 21, 2010 7:57 AM (in response to able123)Thanks guys....
@ Jim
Yes, i pretty well stayed safe, and used the same export function as my source material.
@ robodog2
Yes, this is good information. I tend to read this once a year as a reference guide.
Essential for people viewing interlaced sources on monitors and software players, and for advanced users of AVISynth, who like to get dirt under their
fingernails for the perfect output..
These are the kind of deinterlacing techniques and methods that aren't shown up front, and only lead you to guess
what Premiere is using...Especially the "Export with maximum quality" option....
Thanks everybody..
