1. Re: Links missing
Stix Hart Aug 24, 2010 3:24 PM (in response to auctioneer)What symbol do the links have beside them in the links panel?
If it's the yellow triangle you just have to select "Update All Links", this would have happened when you packaged them and it's seeing them as changed, doesn't always do this, I've never really managed to work out when it does and doesn't. If it's the red circle then they actually are missing and your packaging hasn't worked correctly. If so state OS and version of Indesign.

P Spier Aug 24, 2010 3:24 PM (in response to auctioneer)Were the links missing before you ran the package command? It isn't going to package anything it can't find.

auctioneer Aug 24, 2010 3:32 PM (in response to P Spier)Thanks...I checked and the links were missing before I packaged the catalogue.
Mac OS 10.5.8
InDesign CS5
I'd really like to relink all the files, what do I need to look at?
Thx

4. Re: Links missing
P Spier Aug 24, 2010 3:41 PM (in response to auctioneer)Unfortunately I don't think there is an "easy" way to find the links. Pick one, do a file search for it, then note the folder location. If you're lucky, there will be more links in that folder, too.
Select all the missing links in the panel, then run the Relink to Folder command and point it at the folder you found. ID will reliink as many files as it can find in that folder. If some are not there, repeat with another missing link.
If the links are missing altogether, i.e. they don't exist on your system, you'll need to get new copies.

5. Re: Links missing
Stix Hart Aug 24, 2010 3:41 PM (in response to auctioneer)Indesign can't package what it can't find!
Try the Relink to Folder, but of more concern is why they are missing on the first place. Did you shift or rename the folder they are in? Indesign is pretty good at finding them still if you shift the Indesign file, not if you do something to the links.

6. Re: Links missing
auctioneer Aug 24, 2010 4:32 PM (in response to Stix Hart)Thanks...I need to go through each link and point to the correct folder. This was totally my fault, I took it upon myself to clean up my HD never thinking it would have any effect on my 'catalog project'. I've learned a lesson here...thanks again for all the help.

7. Re: Links missing
Stix Hart Aug 24, 2010 4:42 PM (in response to auctioneer)Ouch! Well you do know now... I try to start off a project like Indesign finishes it, with a Links folder in the same folder as the Indesign file, and all my links in that. And I also try to never make a mess on my HD, so I never ever "tidy" it! Storage is cheap.
