    TEMPLATE PROBLEMS

    SPECTRASORT
I create a template , add some basic obejcets within the template then create a host of pages based on this , however and this is where the problem arises , when I go back to the Initial template and say add a simple layer with some text in , it previews ok within that template itself and all looks fine, so I save the template and it updates all of the other pages associated with that template. This is where the problems start , the updates webpages show the new layer and text , but not in the correct position as in the template and often in different places on every page , so I have to go back and delete the original layer and text on the template and save it just to get back to square 1.

Another issue that I have seen is that if you create say a series of buttons in FW's and import them into your DW Template as Fireworks HTML then at a later date remove this button group/layer and try to add another button group/layer , you can never put that layer with button back in the same place as the other layer was , it may well preview just fine in IE on the template , however when you save the Template , it puts the new button and layer in crazy positions on every page.?.

Confused what am I doing wrong.?.

This is not a template problem - it's a user problem. When you do not know
how to use layers properly, you can create all kinds of trouble for
yourself. I'm guessing that you have your editable region inside a table
cell, and that you are inserting your layer into that editable region, but
without seeing your code, I can only guess.

By the way, make sure you read this -

We would really have to see your page and an example of what is happening
here. In general, it's best to not use FW HTML until you know enough HTML
to be able to debug the monster that FW creates.

            Dear Murray the Ace,

Let me explain how I create a template , I just make a page in Html then start adding a few layers , shall we say 5 or 6 , I am not using a table , I do not need a table , Its a very simple webpage , I make all of the layers editable regoin , is this my problem.?. , should I be using Frames or Tables then placing layers inside , if so why.?.

I have attached the code for the template.

            Thanks again Murray.

No. Your layout approach is a bit telling, though. Using layers as an
exclusive layout tool is a big mistake, as shown on the page I linked.

                        Dear Murray Ace,

Are you saying that using Layers as the principle method behind my webpage design is my problem.?.

Should I be locating everything inside a table.?.

Appreciate your input I am a newbie at this.

If you are comfortable with, and can build stable HTML tables, then yes. If
you are not, then I'm afraid you will have to punt, and study some. If you
want to try a CSS solution, go through these -
