1. Re: Possible system for editing Scarlet 3k raw footage
Harm Millaard Aug 25, 2010 9:13 AM (in response to jpodlesnik1)Keep in mind that the i7 series is limited to a theoretical maximum of 36 GB, but a practical maximum of 24 GB memory, due to the architecture of the memory controller and the X58 motherboards. Xeon have a 192 GB maximum.
You are forgetting a separate OS & program boot disk.
Sandy Bridge-E or Patsburg with X68 mobo's are still a way off, but when they come, high-end systems will have 32 GB memory as a somewhat standard if I am correct.

jpodlesnik1 Aug 25, 2010 4:00 PM (in response to Harm Millaard)Thanks for the reminder on the upward limit on the amount of RAM for i7 boards. My guess is that to work efficiently with
Scarlet raw footage, we're probably looking at Xeon anyway (cpu and mainboard). Oh, l mentioned the SSD (perhaps larger drive) and app disc(s) earlier.
Thanks!
