# Button Flash 8 Problem

I have 12 movie clip buttons on the main page (3 rows of 4 buttons).   When a button is pressed, it gives the answer to a question which remains visible.  On this answer screen, there is another button to click for further information.

I pointed to this button to go to another frame within the same movieclip (containing the further information).

However, this "further information" shows up  UNDERNEATH the 12 buttons, and you can't read it.

How can I fix that?

Thank you.

• ###### 1. Re: Button Flash 8 Problem

Make sure the layer with the object with the other information in it is on a higher layer than the buttons.

• ###### 2. Re: Button Flash 8 Problem

This is hard to explain, but  the 12 buttons are located on the main

timeline (this is what shows up on top of my "more information".)

My  "for more info" button and  the frame it points to are inside one of

the twelve movie clip buttons above.

Hope this makes sense.

• ###### 3. Re: Button Flash 8 Problem

Ok, so inside the movie clip, what layer does the more information appear on?  Is it on the layer above the buttons?

• ###### 4. Re: Button Flash 8 Problem

There aren't any buttons inside the movie clip except for the "click here

for more info".     I put the "more information" data on layer 2 inside of

this mc timeline.

Back on the main timeline the (12) buttons appear on layer 1.   These are

the ones that cover up my "more information" which is contained in the

movie clip button.

Do you think I should move my "information" out to the main timeline

(above the buttons) and if so, how do I point the button in the movieclip

back to the main timeline?

Thank you very much.

• ###### 5. Re: Button Flash 8 Problem

Could you attatch a screenshot of the main timeline and the inside of one of the moviecilps?  Still having a little trouble visualizing how things are set up.  Also, are each of the 12 buttons a separate move clip?

If you want to access the main timeline, if you're working in ActionScrip2, just put a _root. before the instance name of what you want to reference. So if you're referencing the more info text (assuming its a dynamic text box that fills with specific info depending on which more info button you press or something) it would be _root.textbox.text="text goes here"

Thank you for your help.  I wasn't going to use dynamic text boxes - more

of a manual method as I don't know about dynamic text boxes yet.

No problem, if that doesn't work just post some screenshots of how everything is set up, I'll probably be able to help you better if I had a visual.

• ###### 8. Re: Button Flash 8 Problem

Hi - here are a few screenprints, the last one is the outcome.   Thank you so much for your time and advice.

• ###### 9. Re: Button Flash 8 Problem

Hmm, maybe try changing the font color of the message.  It looks like it may just be black on black, making it look like the type is under the button.

• ###### 10. Re: Button Flash 8 Problem

Nope, no luck ... tried changing color ... shows up as purple letters on

white with the black buttons in front of it again.   I tried putting the

"more information" page on the main timeline, and assigned this to the

button:

on (release) {

_root.gotoAndStop("INFO");

}

Must be doing something wrong here too, because it does not go to the

frame I gave an instance name "INFO" at all.

Thanks again.

If I had access to flash I'd say send me the fla, but unfortunately getting the liscencing is giving me issues (yay for being unable to connect when doing the code entry )

Go back to the way it was before moving it to the main timeline, pretty sure there's something off about the actionscript but im not sure of the right syntax for it.

Which layer is the type on in the screenshot? buttons? other stuff respectively in the movie clip timeline?

• ###### 12. Re: Button Flash 8 Problem

Hi - Main timeline: buttons are on the bottom layer, type is on the second

layer, then an actions layer.

Button:  bottom layer is button background color, second layer is the

typed button label, third layer is the layer names, fourth layer is the

"Info" (further info) page and 5th is the stop actions.

Thanks,

Odd... looks like it SHOULD be working the way you originally had it... at

this point i'm kind of stumped.

• ###### 14. Re: Button Flash 8 Problem

OK thanks anyway!
