captain1944 Aug 25, 2010 4:44 PM (in response to Gyno-jiz)is this to suggest that adobe sees no need to address a major flaw in this very important piece of software? A flaw that was already brought to their atenion in cs4?
-
3. Re: CLONE TOOL ISSUES...come on adobe, enough is enough
Gyno-jiz Aug 25, 2010 5:11 PM (in response to captain1944)No, it's to suggest that if a major flaw has been present in the software for two years, you'd think any affected users would download the trial before purchase and confirm the flaw had been fixed. But if you failed to do that, and still want a refund, contact Adobe and get one.
Or post some specs and screen shots of your specific issue and we might be able to help you pinpoint the problem. Or just rant away...

Chris Cox Aug 25, 2010 5:15 PM (in response to captain1944)Short of known cases of third party driver bugs, or other problems external to Photoshop --- this has never been reproduced.
Only a handful of people have reported the problem, and so far they all tracked it back to external/third party causes.

Noel Carboni Aug 25, 2010 8:50 PM (in response to captain1944)Something's wrong with your computer setup if you're seeing this problem. I have never seen it, in daily use of Photoshop for 17 years, including Photoshop CS4 and CS5 since the first they released.

Mylenium Aug 25, 2010 11:19 PM (in response to captain1944)It is not my computer
It is and so are the computers of those "many people" you claim you would know have the problem. Now we can stand here all day and argue about this, but it's most definitely not a flaw in the software - I mean, I can run PCS CS5 on an 8 year old box with a meagre old Quadro card and still can perfectly work even with OpenGL (not counting a few issues that are only logical on such an old card), so in all fairness, there is something wrong with your hardware or its configuration. If you can provide more information, someone here may have an idea, otherwise just return the software...

John Joslin Aug 26, 2010 5:37 AM (in response to captain1944)You messed up the link Cap'n!
But that thread doesn't prove the software has a bug.
A lot of cases it was PEBKAC and in others poorly configured computers.
If you are convinced you have discovered a real fault I suggest you fill out a bug report with all relevant detals and send it to Adobe not us.

John Mensinger Aug 26, 2010 5:37 AM (in response to captain1944)The Clone Stamp Tool is a brush, and odd brush behaviors like "skipping," incomplete cursor, etc. have been discussed here at length many times over. It's been suggested, demonstrated, and proven just as many times that the problem and its fix is in the display drivers...
A lot of users I know whose video apparatus doesn't work well with OpenGL enabled simply turn it off and get on with their work.

13. Re: CLONE TOOL ISSUES...come on adobe, enough is enough
Noel Carboni Aug 26, 2010 6:42 AM (in response to captain1944)Please allow me to offer some specific advice.
1. Obtain the following tools:
- Autoruns by SysInternals (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/default.aspx)
- Shell Extension Viewer by NirSoft (http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/shexview.html)
2. Determine - with these tools, the Programs and Features menu, and the Task Manager - EVERYTHING that is installed and running on your system, from programs to services to browser helper objects and Add-ons.
3. Remove/disable the programs/utilities/toolbars/Add-ons/etc. that you don't need.
4. Systematically disable the things you have left until such time as the problem is resolved. Then when you have determined it is your antivirus package, or some other driver, or something, choose a better alternative.
5. Follow good, safe computing practices subsquently, e.g., don't install every toolbar or freeware app you come along; research EVERYTHING you do choose to install to determine if it's safe and not going to cause you any problems; disable Internet Explorer's penchant for installing every ActiveX you come across except from sites you indicate you trust.
6. Check now and regularly thereafter with the manufactuers of hardware in your computer, including your computer motherboard itself, for updates to BIOS and drivers.
The above may seem like a lot of management work, but that's life with modern computers. People following these practices tend to have better computing experiences, much the same as people who maintain their cars, buy good fuel and oil, and don't throw their trash on the floor tend to have better transportation experiences.
Hope this helps!

14. Re: CLONE TOOL ISSUES...come on adobe, enough is enough
Noel Carboni Aug 26, 2010 6:51 AM (in response to captain1944)Some other things you can do to help net you some better advice:
1. List your computer specs in detail, brand, model, processors, cores, RAM, etc.
2. Say what operating system you're running, whether 32 bit or 64, etc.
3. List all hardware interfaces - i.e., what video card? What disks? What display? What mouse?
4. List any events you're seeing in your Windows event logs at the time the problems are seen.
I think by now it should be becoming clear you may not get a "quick fix" and that you're going to have to take some responsibility for helping to find and fix the problem. But I guarantee you there are a lot of talented folks here who ARE willing to help free of charge if you're willing to work with us.

be, there are millions who purchase this product who are not nearly as tech savvy as some on here.......one would think that
they would produce this software without it being necessary to go deep into the computer to make such an important tool work...just my opinion

16. Re: CLONE TOOL ISSUES...come on adobe, enough is enough
Noel Carboni Aug 26, 2010 7:09 AM (in response to captain1944)While I agree with you in principle that "it should just work", reality just isn't like that - and it has little to do with Adobe. Smooth multitasking/multithreading requires that all the software on your computer plays nice together, and since you choose what you run then the responsibility for keeping your computer running smoothly lies with you. Windows is nowhere near defensive enough to keep the peace if one or more software packages are malfunctioning, disabling interrupts, blocking threads, etc.
If you were to install your OS afresh, using the latest drivers for your hardware, you'd find Photoshop would run great. As it is, I'll bet choppy mouse operation isn't your only computer problem. For example, does it play music without interruption?
It is also possible you have malfunctioning hardware, which is why I mentioned the Windows logs above. For example, a disk that has to retry a read of a weak sector multiple could block system operation until that sector is finally read successfully.

captain1944 Aug 26, 2010 7:26 AM (in response to Noel Carboni)while my browssr, firefix, freezes at times, I really have experienced
no other problems...music runs great for example, I frequently make dvd's for weddings I shoot, etc.....and cs5 runs well, except for this issue.....what concerns me is that this issue was not expeienced in cs3. It first started in cs4 and continues in cs5...and as the posts show, many people have this same issue......this is why I think adobe needs to step up to the plate....

John Joslin Aug 26, 2010 7:46 AM (in response to captain1944)OpenGL was first introduced in CS4 and is very dependent on an adequate video card and good drivers.
And a stable system!

19. Re: CLONE TOOL ISSUES...come on adobe, enough is enough
John Mensinger Aug 26, 2010 7:35 AM (in response to captain1944)Actually, shortly after CS4's release, there was a thread here virtually 100's of posts long, (and a few others), where numerous specifics were thrown down, dissected, and brought to conclusive direction by some very knowledgeable people, including employees of Adobe and several hardware manufacturers. Since then, there have been a few "stragglers," like yourself, but the issue has been put to rest for the most part.
Be certain your display adapter and input device drivers are up to date. (If that doesn't help, experimenting with different versions might. I actually had to roll my display driver back one version to fix my problems when installing the 'latest' driver didn't.)
Also, experiment with your display "hardware acceleration." (Disable it and note any differences.)
And/or...
Turn off OpenGL.

dec9 Aug 26, 2010 7:58 AM (in response to captain1944)Many people? The OP fixed the issue on at least one computer by turning off opengl.
The other two who posted that they had older dells. One had a integrated intel chip that was not even close to specs for even CS4. Not sure about the other dell as both posters never came back.
You? Responders have asked you to post your system specs. Without knowing what you have, how do you expect anybody to help you? The responders are more then happy to help you but can't until you step up to the plate too on your end of the stick.

Are you just a complainer, or do you want to solve your problem?
A web search shows lots of posts for microsoft wireless mouse producing random movements on a number of non-Adobe products.
Could not locate the post I remember, but those with random movements and lines on the screen were fixed when they went to a corded mouse, or a different wireless mouse. Could be something as simple as low batteries or dirty surface.

1) believe it or not, if one doesn't respond in 5 minutes it does notmean they do not care....not everyone is glued to their computer 24/7
2) as to complaining and not solving...follow the thread young man.....took quite a while to actually get some suggestions of value
Finally, I do not consider it complaining to make note of a VERY common issue for many PS users......all of us are not as tech savvy as others........and to use PS properly I maintain that one should not have to be....

32. Re: CLONE TOOL ISSUES...come on adobe, enough is enough
Noel Carboni Aug 26, 2010 12:25 PM (in response to captain1944)If it was a very common problem, do you think Adobe would be successful in selling Photoshop?
Though on the Adobe "Supported video cards" list, an Intel video card (or embedded video interface) is not known to be the best for Photoshop work. Can you upgrade your system to a better card? Note that very good video cards cost like a hundred bucks.
You have been given a lot of suggestions, above. I'd probably start by disabling OpenGL operation in the Photoshop prefs and possibly trying one of the advanced modes and see if that helps.

34. Re: CLONE TOOL ISSUES...come on adobe, enough is enough
dec9 Aug 26, 2010 3:40 PM (in response to captain1944)The worst performers for photoshop are integrated Intel graphics. There are so many posts in this forum it isn't even funny. There was once a Intel person posting on here saying they were working on the problems. However, the problems were never solved nor has he ever showed up again. The internet is full of issues with integrated chips and are ok for everyday usage but not for software like Photoshop or even gaming for the matter. The best solution is to use discrete graphics chips/cards like ATI or Nvidia.
ATI and Nvidia post updates for the majority of their cards on their website at least once a month. With Intel you might be lucky with one or two at the most with the life of the chip.
