We need to build a graphical user interface for an engineering application, which requires controls like a flowcharts(circle, rectangles, squares ) and be able to dynamically control the color of these controls(from a java application using XML).
Currently we are using flash CS2 for this..but the application development is getting complex(since for each graphics object type/shapes) we are creating different frames in the flash and the scripting logic is quite difficult to maintain.
The GUI that we are trying to create is like an engineering block diagram of device connectivity.
Will using the flex IDE, make the development like a GUI programming using VC++/Java swing ?. We should be able to do simple event handling (like click etc.,)
Appreciate your inputs on this
Our application is web based. hence we wanted the application/solution be finally be able to work in a web server
Yes, Flex's design supports object-oriented and event-driven GUI development similar to Java Swing or VC++. ActionScript should be pretty easy to pick up if you have experience with either of those. Flex offers the convenience of (optional) XML layouts in MXML which makes it easier to change your view and you'll find many examples cram everything into the view for quick copy-and-pasting.
